When thou didst descend into the waters,
O Christ God,
and didst tread upon him that had power over all,
then didst thou destroy death by thy Cross,
O Lover of Mankind.
For in the Tomb thou didst vanquish him who held the realm of the dead,
and didst loose those who were in bonds,
having broken the chains of Hades.
Therefore, we also, with hymns and psalms,
praise thee, O Saviour,

O Soul of Life, ever living in God,
Always by His power we are sustained;
Sudden is our departure from this life,
And the delusion of the world is vain.
For as a stranger and foreigner we dwell here,
Our glory is but a fleeting spectacle.
Let us with compunction of heart
Seek the mercy of Him who is our Creator.
For He is the King, the heavenly One,
Whose right hand holds victory for His people;
His arm is mighty in salvation,
And His Spirit gives life to all.
Therefore let us with one voice today
Praise Him who is our God and Saviour,
O Soul, lift up thy voice to Him on high:
For He is the true Light, the Life of the world.

If thou hast descended into the lower parts of the earth, O Immortal, yet didst thou destroy the power of hell with thy might, and didst rise again as Victor, O Jesus Christ, having foretold it to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice, and by thy Apostles give peace, and to them that fall uprise the Resurrection.
