L'évangéliste Matthieu raconte ce grand événement de la vie de Jésus-Christ (chapitre 3, vv. 1-2, 5-7, 11, 13-17, selon la traduction russe) (Matthieu 3 : 1-2, 5-7, 11, 13-17) :
En ces jours-là, Jean-Baptiste vient prêcher dans le désert de Judée et dit : Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux est proche. Alors Jérusalem, toute la Judée et tout le Jourdain environnant sortirent vers lui et furent baptisés par lui dans le Jourdain, confessant leurs péchés. Quand Jean vit... ceux qui venaient vers lui pour se faire baptiser, il leur dit... Je vous baptise dans l'eau pour la repentance ; mais Celui qui vient après moi est plus puissant que moi ; I am not worthy to carry His sandals; Il vous baptisera du Saint-Esprit et de feu... Puis Jésus vient de Galilée jusqu'au Jourdain chez Jean pour se faire baptiser par lui. Jean l'a retenu et a dit : J'ai besoin d'être baptisé par toi, et tu viens à moi ? Mais Jésus répondit et lui dit : Laisse-le maintenant ; car c’est ainsi qu’il nous convient d’accomplir toute justice. Then John admits Him. Et après avoir été baptisé, Jésus sortit aussitôt de l'eau ; et voici, les cieux lui furent ouverts, et Jean vit l'Esprit de Dieu descendre comme une colombe et descendre sur lui. Et voici, une voix venant du ciel disait : Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai toute mon affection.

Dans le Jourdain, je te suis baptisé, ô Seigneur, l'adoration trinitaire apparaît : car la voix des Parents te témoigne, nommant ton Fils bien-aimé, et l'Esprit, sous la forme d'une colombe, déclare tes paroles d'affirmation. Christ our God appears, and the world is enlightened, glory to You.
Lorsque Toi, Seigneur, as été baptisé dans le Jourdain, le culte de la Très Sainte Trinité s'est révélé : car la voix du Père a témoigné de Toi, t'appelant le Fils bien-aimé, et l'Esprit, sous la forme d'une colombe, a assuré la vérité de la parole (Père). Kondakion.
Tu es apparu aujourd'hui à l'univers, et ta lumière, ô Seigneur, est venue sur nous, dans l'esprit de ceux qui te chantent : Tu es venu et apparu, la Lumière inaccessible.

We magnify You, life-giving Christ, for our sake now in the flesh baptized by John in the waters of the Jordan.

Irmos du premier canon.
1. Il a ouvert le fond des abîmes et l'a attiré avec sa terre sèche, couvrant l'ennemi qui s'y trouve, le Seigneur puissant au combat, car il a été glorifié.
3. The Lord gives strength to our king and lifts up the horn of His anointed ones, who are born of a Virgin and come to baptism. To him faithfully we cry: none is holy, like our God.
4. Ayant entendu, Seigneur, ta voix que tu as dite, la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert, tandis que tu tonnais sur de nombreuses eaux, j'ai témoigné à ton Fils, ayant été tout l'Esprit descendu, criant : Tu es le Christ, la sagesse et la puissance de Dieu.
5. Jésus, le maître de la vie, résout la condamnation prochaine de l'Adam primordial, mais Dieu, sans exiger de purification, purifie celui qui est tombé dans le Jourdain : après avoir tué l'inimitié en lui, il accorde la paix à tous les esprits.
6. Voix de la Parole, lampe de Lumière, étoile du Soleil, Précurseur dans le désert, repentez-vous, criez à tous les hommes et purifiez-vous : voici, le Christ vient délivrer le monde des pucerons.
7. The pious young men, who partook of the fiery furnace, preserve the rustling spirit of the dew unharmed, and the descent of God’s Angel. Also sprinkled with flames, we sang with gratitude: O Lord and God of the fathers, blessed art thou.
8. Le glorieux mystère de Babylone était montré par la grotte, qui émettait de la rosée, comme si avec des courants de feu immatériel le Jourdain était reçu et embrassée la chair du Créateur baptisé, que les hommes bénissent et exaltent pour tous les siècles.
Le Seigneur, irrésistible dans la guerre, a révélé le fond de l'abîme et, le long de celui-ci, comme sur la terre ferme, il a conduit son peuple et a noyé ceux qui résistaient. Glorieux est son nom !
The Lord, who gives strength to our kings and magnifies the power of His anointed ones, is born of the Virgin and comes to be baptized. We, the faithful, will exclaim to Him: there is no one holy except You, our God!
I have heard, O Lord, (the Forerunner) Your voice, which You called the voice of one crying in the wilderness. Lorsque tu tonnas sur de nombreuses eaux (du Jourdain), témoignant de ton Fils, celui-ci (le Précurseur), rempli de l'Esprit révélé, s'écria : Tu es le Christ, la sagesse et la puissance de Dieu !
Jesus, the head of life, comes to resolve the condemnation of the first-created Adam, and, like God, having no need for cleansing, he is cleansed for the fallen in the Jordan, where, having killed hostility, he bestows peace that surpasses all understanding.
The Voice of the Word, the lamp of Light, the dawn of the Sun, the Forerunner exclaims in the desert to all people: repent and cleanse yourself in advance; car voici, Christ vient, rachetant le monde de la corruption.
The pious young men, who were in the fiery furnace, were kept unharmed by the noisy wind with dew and the descent of the Angel of God. Therefore, being watered in the midst of the flames, they sang with gratitude: Blessed are You, glorious Lord and God of the fathers.
The Babylonian oven, having poured out dew, depicted that wonderful mystery that the Jordan had to receive into its streams the immaterial Fire and embrace the Creator who was baptized in the flesh, whom people bless and exalt for all ages.
Magnify, my soul, the most honorable of the hosts on high, the Most Pure Virgin Mary.
9. Every tongue is perplexed to praise according to its inheritance, but the mind and the most peaceful praise of Thee, Mother of God, are astounded. Moreover, O good being, accept faith, for our divine love weighs: You are the intercessor of Christians, We magnify You.
No tongue is able to adequately praise You, Mother of God, and even the heavenly mind is perplexed as to how to praise You. But, as good, accept faith, because You know our divine love; car Tu es le représentant des chrétiens ; Nous vous magnifions.
Irmos du deuxième canon.
1. Une turbulente tempête maritime se déplace, la terre ferme d'Abiy Israël est apparue : le ponton rouge des trois états d'Egypte est entièrement recouvert d'eau, le cercueil est recouvert de la puissance de la forte main droite de la Dame.
3. Les arbres des anciens sont criblés de pièges aux lions, effacés par les membres, nous nous réjouissons et ouvrons la bouche, tissant la parole avec des paroles de chant doux, qui nous ravissent de dons (Ps. 57, 7).
4. By the fire of the secret sight, purify yourself, the prophet of men, the new deity, proclaims the voice of the Spirit, splashing, the incarnation of the ineffable Word, by which the mighty powers were destroyed (Hab. 3:14).
5. The enemy of the dark and defiled poison, by the purification of the Spirit of exhaustion, to a new, unblemished path leading to unapproachable joy, I alone will approach, to whom God is reconciled.
6. The longed-for appearance with the all-blessed voice of the Father, Whom I will burp from the womb: to her, he says, This is a natural Son, the most luminous of all mankind, but My Word is living and man is providential.
7. The serpent’s heads are scorched by a stream of high fire, carrying pious youths, calming, the uncontrollable darkness of sin is all washed away with the dew of the Spirit (Ps. 73:14).
8. La création est désormais libre, et les fils de lumière sont connus avant qu'ils ne soient obscurcis : un mur de ténèbres en est un représentant. Maintenant, qu'il bénisse diligemment le coupable, auparavant maudit, tout l'héritage des langues (Jean 8 :34, 12 :36).
9. Oh, more than the mind of Thy miracles, O all-pure Bride, blessed Mother! Having received all-perfect salvation, we worthily praise him as a benefactor, bearing the gift of a song of thanksgiving.
Israel passes through the undulating depths of the sea, which suddenly turns out to be dry land; and the dark sea completely covers the Egyptian horsemen, (like) a watery coffin, with the strong power of the right hand of the Lord.
Having freed ourselves from the ancient networks of bloodthirsty lions, whose jaws have (already) been crushed, let us rejoice and widen our lips, composing words into a sweetly sung word; Lequel de (tous) nos cadeaux est le plus agréable ?
