Ἐπὶ τοῦ ὄρους μετεμορφώθης, καὶ ὡς ἐχώρουν οἱ Μαθηταί σου, τὴν δόξαν σου Χριστὲ ὁ Θεὸς ἐθεάσαντο ἵνα ὅταν σὲ ἴδωσι σταυρούμενον, τὸ μὲν πάθος νοήσωσιν ἑκούσιον, τῷ δὲ κόσμῳ κηρύξωσιν, ὅτι σὺ ὑπάρχεις ἀληθῶς τοῦ Πατρὸς τὸ ἀπαύγασμα.
You were transfigured on the mountain, / and as the host of Your disciples, / You saw Your glory, O Christ God, / so that when they see You crucified, / they will understand free suffering, / They will preach to the world that You are truly the Father’s radiance.
You were transformed on the mountain, and Your disciples saw Your glory, O Christ God, as far as they could bear it. So that, having seen You on the Cross, I would understand that You suffer voluntarily, and preach to the world that You are truly the radiance of the Father.
