Tell me, children, who is Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity. - What is it called again? Jesus Christ is also called the Savior. - Does it make any difference to say: Jesus or Savior? - Doesn't matter. Why is the Son of God called the Savior? - Because he came to earth to save people. - What did He need to save them from? - From bad deeds, in other words, from sins. You know that when you do something badly, your parents punish you for it. God can also punish us all for bad deeds. When people began to live badly; to do not what God ordered, but what they themselves wanted, then God, from a good Father, became a strict Judge and began to punish them. But people did not become better, but sinned more and more and became so accustomed to sin that they completely forgot about God and His holy law. All that remained was to destroy them all, and there were many people in the world. Then God sent His Only Begotten Son into the world, who was born of the Blessed Virgin Mary and became in everything like people, only he never did anything bad, never sinned.
The Most Holy Theotokos named her Son Jesus, that is, Savior. The Savior, while living on earth, taught people to be obedient to God in everything and to live among themselves in love and harmony. It was in Himself that He showed the first example of a holy, pious life. Some people willingly listened to the teachings of Jesus Christ and believed in Him, while others hated Him and killed Him, and how did they kill Him? Think about it, children, they nailed Jesus Christ by the hands and feet to the high Cross, on which He died in terrible agony. So, know what sins can bring a person to: he will not be ashamed to kill an innocent righteous person.
But you often do not obey your parents, you do not always live peacefully among yourself, sometimes you tell lies, and you do not always pray to God fervently; does that mean you, children, sin too? Yes, now all people sin. After this, what should we, sinners, do, if not ask for mercy from our Savior, Who, having taught us a holy life and suffering for us, can always punish for sins. Therefore, having expressed in the initial prayer to the Triune God our desire to do everything in His name, we must now ask your Savior to have mercy on us for the bad deeds that we often commit. The Holy Church has established that the prayer for mercy should be said after the initial prayer. Cross yourself, children, and say to me: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us! This prayer is called the Jesus Prayer because in it we ask Jesus Christ to have mercy on us.
The Savior is called Lord because He is our Master, and we are slaves, obliged to obey Him in everything; The Son of God - because the Savior, having become a man, did not cease to be the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity. Christ means the Anointed One.
