When the All-holy Theotokos did bear within her the Life,
Through all the ages she was a Virgin, and in no wise did she suffer defilement.
Therefore let us with compunction of heart cry to Her:
Rejoice, O Joyful Mystery!
Raising Thee from the grave with mighty power, and Hell saw a wonder, and was amazed; and the dead arose: and seeing Thy countenance they rejoiced in Thee, and man was glad, and my world sings Thee evermore.
Hail:
Thou art the Light darkened, Thou art the Resurrection of all, and the Life of men, and Thou didst raise up all, holding in Thy deathly power, breaking the gates of hell with Thy Word: and the dead saw the wonder of Thy miracles, and every creature rejoiceth at Thy resurrection, O Lover of mankind. Wherefore we all glorify Thee and sing Thy descent, and peace doth praise Thee evermore.
