When the All-holy Theotokos, O Soul of God,
Did receive within her holy and pure womb
The Life uncreated, the Eternal Life,
She did not bear Him in the manner of mortals,
But by the power of the Holy Spirit,
And was filled with compunction and great tenderness of heart.
For He Who is the Image of the Father's Glory,
Was made man for our salvation;
He Who is the First-Born of the Trinity,
Did take upon Himself a mortal nature.
O Soul of God, O pure Virgin,
Thou didst receive Him as Thy Son,
And wast filled with exceeding mercy and righteousness.
For Thou didst know not the deceit of this world,
Nor didst Thou ever look to any creature
As though it were more than it is in Thy sight;
But by the power of the Spirit, O Soul of God,
Thou didst receive Him as Thy Son,
And wast filled with exceeding mercy and righteousness.
Therefore, O pure Virgin, we magnify Thee,
For Thou art the Mother of God,
And hast given birth to Him Who is our Life,
O all-holy and glorious Theotokos.
Raising Thee from the grave with all-powerful salvation, and Hell beheld a wonder, trembling, and the dead arose: the face seeing rejoiceth in Thee, and man is glad, and my world singeth Thee forever.
Glory:
Thou art the Light darkened, Thou art the Resurrection of all, and the Life of men, and Thou didst raise to life all, holding in Thy deathly power, smiting the gates of Hades with Thy Word: and the dead beheld a wonder, marveling at Thine own love for man. Therefore we all glorify Thee and sing Thy descent, and my world rejoices in Thy Resurrection.
