The great faith of correction: in the source of the flame, as if on the water of repose, the holy martyr Theodore rejoiced: for he was burnt by fire, as sweet bread was brought to the Trinity. Through his prayers, O Christ God, save our souls.
On the first Sunday of Great Lent, the Triumph of Orthodoxy is celebrated in memory of the restoration of the veneration of icons under the Greek Queen Theodora (in 862). At this celebration, before the end of the liturgy, in the cathedrals, the Church prays for the conversion of all those who have departed from Orthodoxy and the observance of all believers in it, professes the Apostolic Faith, anathematizes the stubborn enemies of Orthodoxy and proclaims eternal memory to its courageous defenders.
Troparion: We worship Your most pure image, O Good One, asking forgiveness of our sins, O Christ our God: for by the will of Thou didst deign to ascend in the flesh to the cross, that Thou mightest deliver that which Thou hast created from the work of the enemy. Thus we cry out to You in gratitude: You have filled all joy, O our Savior, who came to save the world.
On Sunday of the third week of Lent, at Matins, after the Great Doxology, the cross is taken from the altar to the middle of the church and placed on a lectern for worship by the faithful. During this worship the song is sung:
We bow to Your Cross, Master, and we glorify Your holy resurrection.
In the middle of Lent, the Church puts up a cross for believers in order to, with a reminder of the suffering and death of the Lord, inspire and strengthen those who fast to continue the feat of fasting. The veneration of the cross continues in the fourth week of Lent - until Friday, and therefore the entire fourth week is called the veneration of the cross.
In the fifth week, on Thursday, at the morning service, the entire canon of St. Andrey Kritsky. On Saturday of the same week, an akathist or prayer service to the Most Holy Theotokos is performed. This standing, also called “Praise of the Mother of God,” was established in Greece in gratitude to the Mother of God for the repeated deliverance of Constantinople (Constantinople) from enemies. It is also carried out by our Church for the greater strengthening of believers, repentants, in hope of the Heavenly Intercessor, who, by delivering the faithful from visible enemies, is all the more ready to help us in the fight against invisible enemies.
