In the evening of the same day, the so-called continuation of the Passion of the Lord, or Matins, dedicated to the remembrance of the Savior's suffering on the cross, takes place. Instead of “God is the Lord”... “Alleluia” is sung, and the troparion:
When the glory of the disciple is enlightened at the end of the supper, then the evil Judas, sickened by the love of money, becomes darkened and betrays You, the righteous Judge, to the lawless judges. See, the steward of the property, who used strangulation for these sake: run away from the unsatiated soul, such a daring Teacher. O good one, O Lord, glory to Thee.
When the glorious disciples, after washing their feet at the supper, became enlightened, then the wicked Judas, infected with the love of money, became darkened, and so he handed over You, the righteous Judge, to the lawless judges. Look, collector of estates, at the one who hanged himself because of them; Avoid greed - that’s what she dared to do in relation to the Teacher. Merciful to all, Lord, glory to You.
After this troparion, the reading of the 12 Gospels begins, telling about the sufferings of Jesus Christ, starting with His farewell conversation with his disciples at the Last Supper and ending with the burial in the garden of Joseph of Arimathea.
During the reading of the Gospels, believers stand with lighted candles, in commemoration of the glory of the Son of God even during His greatest humiliation.
After the 8th Gospel the three song is sung:
Song 5. Irmos: To You in the morning, Who has unconditionally exhausted mercy for Your own sake, and who has dispassionately bowed down to the passions, Give peace to the Word of God, O lover of mankind.
Song 8. Irmos: The divine youths have denounced the pillar of malice against God: but the reeling lawless congregation advises in vain against Christ, the life of the One who holds the hand is taught to kill: Bless all creation, glorify it forever. I offer my morning prayer to You, the Word of God, who without change humbled Himself out of mercy and dispassionately bowed down to suffering: give peace to me, the fallen, O Lover of Mankind.
The pious youths put to shame the support of the ungodly intention, and the assembly of the lawless, raging against Christ, is plotting in vain, intending to kill Him who holds life in His hand, Whom all creation blesses, glorifying forever.
