I love Thee, O Lord, my stronghold: Thee is my strength and my fortress, my refuge and my deliverer, God my Saviour, my Helper, to whom I cry for help: Thee is my protector, the horn of my salvation, and my defender. I call upon Thee from on high against my enemies; Thou didst uphold me in my sickness and healed me from my sins: the ills of hell afflicted me, they were a snare for death. And when sorrow overcame me, I called to Thee and cried out to God my Saviour: Thy voice from the sanctuary of Thine holy temple heard my cry, and my prayer came before Thee. The earth shook and its foundations trembled; the mountains quaked at the presence of the Lord. A smoke went up with His anger, and a fire blazed forth from His face: the coals were kindled by Him. He stretched out His hand and descended; darkness covered His feet. He ascended on the cherubim and flew on the wings of the wind. He laid His own covering upon them; the moon was hidden before Him: dark waters in the clouds above. From the brightness of His presence, the clouds passed away, the city and fiery flames. He thundered from heaven, and the voice of His power sounded forth. He sent arrows and scattered them, and multiplied the lightning and smote them. He opened the fountains of water, and the foundations of the earth were uncovered: from the inspiration of Thy wrath, O Lord, waters flowed out. From the height Thou didst send me consolation, and received me from many waters. Thou didst deliver me from strong enemies and those who hated me; for Thou art stronger than I. Thou didst precede me in the day of my affliction: Thee is my strength. And Thou leddest me to freedom: as Thou wouldest, O Lord. Thou shalt reward me according to my righteousness and the cleanness of my hands before Thee: for I have kept the ways of the Lord and have not been unrighteous from Thy face. For all the judgments of the Lord are before me, and the righteousness of the Lord has never failed me. And I shall be blameless with Thee and keep myself from the sin of my people. Thou shalt reward me according to my righteousness and the cleanness of my hands in the sight of Thy Father. With the venerable thou shalt be venerable, and with the innocent thou shalt be innocent; with the chosen thou shalt be chosen, and with the rebellious thou shalt be made drunk. For Thou hast delivered men of lowly spirit and humbled the proud. For Thou hast enlightened my lamp, O Lord: my God, Thou hast enlightened my darkness. For by Thee I am delivered from temptation, and through Thy God I pass over the wall. My God, a blameless path is Thine: Thy words are kindled like a fire. A protector is He of all who hope in Him. For who is God but Thee; or who is God but our God? Thou hast strengthened me with power, and laid out before me a blameless path: as the morning, Thou hast set me on high; teaching my hands to fight, and Thou didst put a golden bow in mine arm: and Thou gavest me for protection of salvation, and Thy right hand received me: and Thy chastisement shall correct me at the end, and Thy chastisement shall teach me. Thou didst enlarge my steps under me, and I was not faint with stumbling. Thou didst smite my enemies, and overtook them; they could not stand before my feet. And Thou hast strengthened me in battle, Thou hast slept on all that rose up against me beneath me. And Thou gavest to me the back of my enemies and those who hated me have been consumed. They called upon Thee but Thou didst not save: to Thee they cried but Thou didst not hear them. And as dust before the face of a wind, as chaff that passeth away by the way. Thou hast delivered me from the quarrels of men; Thou hast set me at the head of tongues: people whom I knew not worked for me, and in the hearing of my ears they obeyed me. Sons of strangers lied to me, sons of strangers swore and defiled their own paths. He is alive, O Lord, and blessed be God, and let God lift up His salvation on me, God giving remission to me and subduing men under me, my deliverer from the wrathful enemies: from those that rose against me Thou didst exalt me, from the unjust man Thou didst save me. For this I will confess Thee in the tongues, O Lord, and praise Thy name: praising the salvation of the King and making melody to Christ His Son for ever.
