Master, pierced with nails and by a spear,
Thou didst invoke a curse upon us:
With a lance we were pricked in the side,
Adam's written sentence thou didst tear, freeing the world.
Glory to Thee, O Lord, for Thy resurrection glorified Thee.
When he descended, by deceit having been enticed, into the depths of hell:
But being in very nature God, and being also willing to be made man,
he went down to seek, and upon the cross bore, raising thee from the dead.
Pripev: Preshta bce, spsini nas.
Theotokos: Praising the Lady,
Who gave birth to the Rudder of men,
And hath continually and bitterly softened my passions,
And grant peace to my heart.
Andron. Hymn: Glory to Thee, O Lord, for Thy merciful and life-giving Incarnation and Resurrection.
The Saviour and Proclaimer of the mysteries of truth was the Jewish multitude:
For the prophets of old, being filled with the light of truth's mysteries, could not slay them:
Even so now, He whom we preached then,
were drawn by envy to kill Him.
But unto us is given a life made death.
Be it that He was held, but not in the power of death in the grave; / for though He tasted death by will, yet He rose again because God is deathless, / raising up the prisoners who were in hades, / and joy instead of former sorrow He changed again.
Theotokos: Disgraceful is thy and meagre semblance in the sight of mortals / more than men's in the time of passion: / for Thou, O God-blessed One, by Thy creation revealed Thy beauty in goodness: / but with Thy rod Thou smotest the strength of Thine enemies, speaking as Thou didst read: / From my dust and from the grave arise.
Great was the forewriting in the prophesies of Moses, / concerning the ark, and the table, and the candlestick, and the rod, / which were fashioned with signs denoting the Incarnation, / which came from Thee, O Thou Highest, two-fold.
Glory to Thee, and to Thy Son, and to Thy Holy Spirit.
Death doth mortify, and corruption exerciseth Adam's condemnation, O Lady!
The fruit of thy travail hath been brought forth:
For life thou didst bear,
From corruption freeing them that sing to thee.
And now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
The Law and commandment weakened, and sorrow went over me, / more than a woman with the pangs of a great mercy, / which thou dost bear within thee, O full of grace, / God and Saviour, much-praised.
Bogostevo së i vsechestnoe, / sovraszashče prazdnestvo, / Bogomudivyi Bogomatre, / pridite rukami vospleshimъ, / o neyà rozhshagose Bozhia slavimъ.
O Lord, have mercy. [Three times.]
By the prayers of our holy Mother, O Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us, Amen.
