It came to pass in one day, that Elisha went to Soman, and that woman Beliya kept him from eating bread, and he came in and went out in multitudes, and strayed there from eating bread. And the wife spoke to her husband: Behold, now we understand that this holy man of God walks past us. Let us make him an upper room, the place is small, and we will set him there a bed, and a table, and a throne, and a candlestick: and he will always come to us, and he will turn away there. And it came to pass in one day, and there he went down, and he went into the upper room, and there he slept. And I said to Gehazi to my lads: Call me this Somanite. And I will call and a hundred before him. And he said to him: “You’ve told her, you have surprised us with all this care, what should you do?” Do you have a word to the king, or to the prince of power? She said: (there is) among my people I am living. And he said to Gehazi: What should she do? And Gehazi said to his youth, “Truly she has no son, and her husband is old.” And he said: call on you. And I will call, and a hundred are at the door.

And Elisha said to her: In this time, like this hour, while you live you will conceive a son. She said: Lord, do not lie to your servant. And the woman conceived in the womb, and gave birth to a son in this time, even as she lived in this hour, even as Elisha spoke to her. And when the youth grew to manhood, he went out to his father, to the reaping, and said to his father: My head, my head (it hurts). And he said to the boy: take him to his mother. And he carried him to his mother, and lay on her knee until noon, and he died. And he lifted him up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God: and shut him up, and went out, and called his husband, and said to him: send unto me one of the youths, and one of the donkeys, and I flow to the man of God, and I will return. And he said: why are you going to him today? It’s not a new month, it’s Saturday below. She says: peace. And I saddled the donkey, and said to my maiden: Lead and go, lest thou restrain me, even as I tell thee. Come, and go, and come to the man of God on Mount Carmel. And he went and came before the man of God to Mount Carmel.

And when Elisha saw that she was coming, I said to Gehazi, “Behold, she is a Somanite.” Now the father came to meet her and said to her: Is peace be with you? And he ran to meet her and said to her: Is peace be with you? Is there peace with your husband? Will I bring peace to your youth? she also says: peace. And he came to Elisha on the mountain, and besieged his nose: and Gehazi came near to cast him off. And Elisha said: Leave her, for her soul is sick in her, and the Lord hide from me, and do not tell me. She said: I asked my son for food from my master? as if he said: Do not deceive me? And Elisha said to Gehazi: Gird up your loins, and take my rod in your hand and go, for if you find a husband, do not bless him, and if your husband bless you, do not answer him: and lay my rod on the face of the youth. And the mother of the youth said: As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will leave it to you. And Elisha arose and followed her. And Gehazi went before her, and laid the rod on the face of the youth, and there was no voice, and no hearing.

And he returned to meet him, and told him the verb: the youth shall not arise. And Elisha went into the church, and behold the dead man was laid on his bed. And Elisha went into the house, and shut the door behind him, and prayed to the Lord. And he went up and lay down on the youth, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hand on his hand, and splashed his splash on his splash: and danced over him, and blew on him, and the flesh of the youth warmed up. And he turned and walked to and fro in the church: and he went up and hung over the youth seven times, and opened his eyes to the youth. And Elisha cried to Gehazi, and said, Call this Somanite. And I called, and went down to him, and Elisha said: Receive your son. And the woman came down, and fell on his foot, and bowed down to him to the ground: and she received her son, and went out.

Reading the fourth book of Kings [4:8–37]

There was a day when Elisha crossed over to Soman; There was a noble woman there, and she insisted that he eat bread. And it often happened that, entering Soman, he deviated from his path in order to eat there. And the woman said to her husband: “Behold, I know that the holy man of God is constantly passing by us. Let us build an upper room for him - a small place at the top - and place there for him a bed, a table with a chair and a lamp, and when he comes to us, he will retire there. And there was a day when Elisha came there, and withdrew into the upper room and slept there. And he said to Gehazi his young servant, “Call this Somanite woman to me.” And he called her, and she stood in front of him. And he said to him: "Tell her: 'Behold, for our sake you have lost everything that you yield to us. What can I do for you? Maybe you have a request to the king or the military leader?'" She said: "No, I live among my people." And Elisha said, “What must I do for her?” But Gehazi his servant said, “She has no son, and her husband is old.” And Elisha said, “Call her.” He called her and she stood at the door.

And Elisha said to her: “You will live about a year, and by this time you will embrace your son.” She said: “Oh no, my lord, man of God, do not deceive your servant!” And the woman conceived in her womb, and having lived about a year, gave birth to a son at the time that Elisha spoke to her. And the boy grew up, and it happened that he once went to his father, who worked with the reapers, and said to his father: “My head, my head!” And the father said to the servant: “Send him to his mother.” And he sent him to his mother, and he lay on her lap until noon and died. And she carried him upstairs, laid him on the bed of the man of God, and closed it and went out. And calling her husband, she said: “Send me one of the servants with a donkey, and I will hasten to the man of God and return.” And he said: “Why are you going to him today, when it is not the new moon and not Saturday?” She said: “Peace be with you.” And she saddled the donkey and said to her servant: “Go quickly and do not delay me on the way until I tell you.

Live, go and come to the man of God on Mount Carmel!” And it happened that Elisha saw her riding, and said to Gehazi his servant, “Look, a Somanite woman!” Now run to meet her and say: “Peace be with you!” Peace to your husband, peace to your child!” And she said: "Peace!" And she came to Elisha on the mountain and grabbed his feet. And Gehazi came to remove her, and Elisha said: “Leave her, for her soul is in pain, and the Lord hid it from me and did not tell me.” She said: “Did I ask my master for a son? For I said, “Do not confuse me!” And Elisha said to Gehazi, “Gird up your thighs, and take my staff in your hand, and listen: if you meet a man, do not bless him, and if a man blesses you, do not answer him. And place my staff on the boy’s face.” And the boy’s mother said: “As the Lord lives, so does your soul! Oh, I wish I could keep up!” And Elisha stood up and followed her. And Gehazi went ahead of her and laid the staff on the boy’s face. And I didn't hear a sound. And he turned to meet Elisha and announced to him, saying: “The boy has not risen.”

And Elisha entered the house, and behold, a dead boy lay on his bed. And Elisha entered the house, and locked the door against them both, and prayed to the Lord. And he went up and lay down on the boy, and put his mouth to his mouth and his eyes to his eyes, and put his hands on his hands and covered him with himself, and the boy’s flesh became warm. And he got up and walked around the house back and forth, and went upstairs and bent over the child up to seven times. And the boy opened his eyes. And Elisha shouted to Gehazi, “Call this Somanite woman!” And he called her and said: “Take your son!” And the woman came in and fell at his feet and bowed down to the ground. And she took her son and went out.
