Prokeimenon (Psalm 19), tone 5: The Lord will hear you/ in the day of sorrow.

Verse: The name of the God of Jacob will protect you.

Prokeimenon (Psalm 19), tone 5: May the Lord hear you on the day of oppression!

Verse: Let the name of the God of Jacob cover you like a shield!

Genesis reading (Genesis 2:20–25; 3:1–20).

I will call the names of all the livestock, and all the birds of the air, and every beast of the earth, Adam, but Adam will not find a helper like him. And God put a curse on Adam, and he succeeded: and took one from his side, and made him flesh in his place. And the Lord God created a rib, taking it from Adam, for a wife, and bringing it to Adam. And Adam said: Behold, this day is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: this shall be called woman, for she was taken from her husband. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife: and the two will become one flesh. And the devils were both naked, Adam and his wife, and were not ashamed. The serpent is the wisest of all the beasts that are on earth, which the Lord God created. And the serpent said to the woman: As God said, let you not eat from every tree of Paradise. And the woman said to the serpent: We will eat from every tree of Paradise. But from the fruit of the tree, which is in the middle of heaven, God said, “Thou shalt not eat from it; touch it, lest ye die.” And the serpent said to the woman: You will not die.

For God knows that even if the day is taken away from him, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like a god, knowing good and evil. And the woman saw that it was a good tree for food, and that it was pleasing to the eye, and that it was red, even to understand: and she took of the fruit thereof, the poison: and gave it to her husband with him, and the poison. And the eyes of both were opened, and they understood that the Nazis were Besha: and they sewed together fig leaves, and made girdles for themselves. And they heard the voice of the Lord God going into paradise at noon: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God in the midst of the tree of paradise. And the Lord God called Adam, and said to him: Adam, where are you? And he said to Him: I heard the voice of You going to Paradise, and you were afraid because I was naked, and you hid yourself. And God said to him: Who will tell you that you are naked, except that you did not eat from the tree that commanded you? And Adam said: “Woman, even as you gave with me, you gave to me from the tree, and the food died.” And the Lord God said to the woman: What have you done? And the woman said: The serpent deceived me and killed me.

And the Lord God said to the serpent: Because thou hast done these things, cursed be thou from all cattle, and from all the beasts of the earth: upon thy breasts shalt thou go, and thou shalt carry away the earth all the days of life. yours. And I will put enmity between you, and between the woman, and between your seed, and between her seed: she will keep her head, and you will watch her heel. And he said to the wife: I will multiply your sorrows and your sighs; in your sickness you will give birth to a child, and you will turn to your husband, and she will possess you. And he said to Adam: Because thou hast listened to the voice of thy wife, and thou hast borne from the tree which commanded thee, this alone shall not eat, from which thou ate: cursed is the earth in thy works, bear it in sorrow all the days of your life. Thorns and thistles will grow for you, and you will bear down the grass of the village. By the sweat of your brow you have carried away your bread, until you have returned to the land from which you were taken: as you are the earth, you will return to the earth. And Adam called the name of his wife his life, for she is the mother of all who live.

Reading Genesis [2:20–25; 3:1–20]

Adam gave names to all the livestock, and to all the birds of the air, and to all the beasts of the earth; but for Adam there was no helper like him. And God brought oblivion over Adam, and he fell asleep; and He took one of his ribs and filled its place with flesh. And the Lord God created a woman from the rib that he took from Adam and brought her to Adam. And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she will be called a woman, because she was taken from her man. Therefore a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and both will become one flesh.” And they were both naked, Adam and his wife, and were not ashamed. The serpent was the smartest of all the animals that the Lord God created on earth. And the serpent said to the woman: “Why did God say: “Do not you dare eat from a single tree in paradise”?” And the woman said to the serpent: “We will eat from every tree of paradise. From the fruit of the tree located in the middle of paradise, God said: “Do not dare to eat from it and do not even touch it, lest you die.” And the serpent said to the woman: “You will not die.

For God knew that on the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.” And the woman thought that the tree is good for food, and that it is pleasant for the eyes to see it, and to understand it - this is wonderful. And the woman took part of the fruit and ate it, and gave it to her husband with her, and they ate it. And the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed together fig leaves and made themselves wide belts. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in paradise in the afternoon, and Adam and his wife hid from the presence of the Lord God in the midst of paradise. And the Lord God called Adam and said to him: “Adam, where are you?” And he said to Him: “I heard Your voice when You walked in Paradise, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” And God said to him: “Who revealed to you that you were naked, unless you had eaten from the tree of which I commanded you: “You must not eat from this alone”?” And Adam said: “The woman whom You gave and who is with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman: “Why did you do this?” And the woman said: “The serpent deceived me, and I ate it.”

And the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all the livestock and among all the beasts of the earth: on your breast and belly you will walk and you will eat earth all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed: He will watch for your head, and you will watch for His heel.” And he said to the woman: “By multiplying, I will multiply your sorrows and your groans: in pain you will give birth to children, and you will turn to your husband, and he will rule over you.” And he said to Adam: “Because you listened to the voice of your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you: “You shall not eat from this alone,” and you ate from it, cursed is the earth in your deeds: in tribulation you will eat from it all the days of your life. She will produce thorns and thorns for you, and you will eat the grass of the field. By the sweat of your face you will eat your bread until you return to the ground from which you were taken, for you are earth and to earth you will go.” And Adam named his wife Life, for she is the mother of all living.

Prokeimenon (Psalm 20), tone 6: Exalted, O Lord, in Thy power, let us sing and praise Thy might.

Verse: Lord, in Your power the king will rejoice, and in Your salvation he will rejoice greatly.

Prokeimenon (Psalm 20), tone 6: In Your power, O Lord, be exalted! We will sing and glorify Your great deeds.

Verse: From Your power, O Lord, the king will rejoice and will be in great joy because of Your salvation.

Proverbs reading (Proverbs 3:19–34).
