Of Saint Peter Studite:

Thy holy rule, O Father, doth teach us to flee from every sin and to walk in the way of righteousness.

Thy pure life, O Venerable One, was a mirror of true piety and a pattern for all who seek to follow Thee.

Through Thy compunction of heart, O Father, Thou didst show us the path of true humility and the power of prayer.

Thy stranger life, O Venerable One, in the wilderness was a testimony to Thy love for God and Thy desire for spiritual purity.

Thou didst fight against the delusion that the world offers any true joy or satisfaction; therefore, Thou wast ever zealous for the things of God.

O Father, by Thy mercy, we beseech Thee to intercede for us before the throne of grace, that we may find true peace and rest in Christ our Lord.

To Thee, O Most Pure Mother of God, with great reverence I fall down and pray: Remember me, O Queen, because without cease I sin and grieve Thee and Thy Son, and many times I confess my sins, lying before Thee in penitence. I confess tremblingly: Shall it not be that the Lord will smite me, and again at the appointed time I shall fall into distress? Knowing this, O My Lady, Thou Most Pure One, I beseech Thee, have mercy on me, strengthen me, and grant to do good deeds. For indeed, O My Lady, most pure one, although I hate with all my heart the works of sin, and love with all my mind the law of Thy Son: yet I know not from what source I am hated, but loving it, I commit evil. Do not allow, O Most Pure One, that my will accomplish this, for it is not meet; but may Thy will and the will of Thy Son be accomplished: to save me, to enlighten me, and to grant eternal blessings to the holy house of God now and forever, and to all ages. Amen.
