By the hymnody of the penitential season, the first tone is sung:
Autonomus:
Thy grave, O Warrior keeping watch, O dead ones by the descent of the mighty Angel became a guardian, proclaiming to the women the Resurrection. We glorify Thee, O Thou who wast sought for, we fall down before Thee, risen from the grave, and unto Thy Only God.

(Translation in traditional liturgical register:)

Thy grave, O Warrior keeping watch, O dead ones by the descent of the mighty Angel became a guardian, proclaiming to the women the Resurrection. We glorify Thee, O Thou who wast sought for; we fall down before Thee, risen from the grave, and unto Thy Only God.

To the Crucifixion Thou wast fastened by a loving will, laid in the grave having been found dead, O life-giving Death: for with Thy mighty death Thou didst rend asunder the gates of hell, rising from the dead from the age of the dead, for Thou alone art the Lover of Mankind.

O Theotokos,

The Theotokos, our All-Sainted Mother, in very truth, and by the power of her intercession, hastening to Thy mercy, those who love Thee: for Thou art our Intercessor, in whom we have found salvation in times of tribulation, alone pure and spotless.

By the sticheron, at the lesson, tone 1.

Like: Stones Sealed:

Widows to the grave came with sorrow, and angelic vision in trembling: the grave is life, a wonder to behold: for having gone forth with the teaching of the Teacher arose the resurrection: hell has delivered up its prisoners, for it is strong and mighty, and having been weakened, all was raised up, fear being shattered by the sword.

On the Cross Thou hast pierced the life of all, and in the dead Thou hast made the Immortal to dwell; Thou hast risen triply on the third day, having raised Adam from corruption. For this sake we cry to Thee with might, O Giver of Life, Jesus Christ: Glory to Thy Resurrection, glory to Thy Descent, O Most Loving of Humanity.

Theotokos. It is fitting: Thy grave hath saved us.

Blessed be the Reader, O Master of Readers, who hath raised up unto life them that had fallen into the deep pit of fierce wrath and excessive grief. For thou art, O Lord, the salvation of sinners and help in time of trouble, the strong intercession, and deliverest thy servants.

Repentance in hell and the thief rejoiced, tell thou therefore the myrrh-bearers glad tidings, for having raised thee, O Christ, to thy mother gavest thou the great mercy.
Stepenyy:

When sorrow afflicteth me, hear my sickness, O Lord; to Thee do I cry.

The desertsunceasingly desireth divine peace for the sensible, except for the senseless.

Glory and praise to Thee, O Spirit, as is meet, and to Thy Mother also, for this we sing the hymn of unity.

Antiphon v.:

Upon thy mountains, O Lord, thou hast ascended me with thy laws; by thy virtues thou hast enlightened the Theotokos, that I may praise thee.

By Thy right hand, receive my words, preserve me, keep me, that the fiery darts of sin may not fall upon me.

By Thy Spirit is renewed every creature, again flowing to the first: for equal is He with Thee and Word.

Antiphon gá:

Thou hast said to me, "Enter into the courts of the Lord," my spirit rejoiceth, and my heart gladeth.

In the house of the double doors great fear: there in the throne placed, the nations and tongues are judged.

O Soul/Spirit, honor, worship, glory and power,
even as is meet for Thee, and ever fitting to offer:
for there is but one essence in substance,
but not faces.
