By the hymnography of the penitential season, the first tone is sung:
Selbstähnlich:
Thy grave, O warrior keeping watch, O dead one by the descent of the great Angel was made alive, proclaiming to the women the Resurrection. We glorify Thee, O needed One, we fall down before Thee, risen from the grave, and unto Thy only God.

To the Crucifixion thou wast fastened by a generous will, laid in the grave having been found dead, O life-giver; thou didst hold firm the strength of death with thy mighty death: for the gates of hell trembled before thee, thou who wast raised from the dead from everlasting, as the only Lover of mankind.

O Theotokos,

Mother of Thee, our God, truly and in the Mystery of Thy Incarnation, and by the great mercy, whereunto thou hast hastened, and to whomsoever lovingly dost fly unto Thy goodness: for Thou art our Intercessor, O Sinner; Thou hast stayed me in perils, O Ever-Virgin.

According to the sticheron, the tone is 1, and the glas is α̃.

As it is written: "Like a stone sealed."

Widows to the grave came with sorrow, and an angelic vision appeared in trembling: the grave is life, a wonder that astonishes: for having gone forth with the teaching of the preachers, resurrection arose; hell enchains Jesus Christ, for it is strong and mighty, and having been weakened by suffering, it cast down fear, breaking through with its sword.

Crucified wast Thou, O Life of all, and in the dead Thou didst implant the Immortal Lord: on the third day Thou didst rise again for our salvation, raising Adam from corruption. For this we cry to Thee with power, O Giver of Life, O Jesus Christ: glory to Thy resurrection, glory to Thy descent, only Lover of mankind.

Theotokos. It is fitting: Thy grave hath saved us.

O Lord, read, O Reader of the hearts of the faithful, raise up those fallen into the deep pit of fierce ancestral sin and excessive grief; for thou art the repentance and salvation of the guilty, the strength and intercession, and thou savest thy servants.

Thief's repentance in paradise joy, weep thou bearer of myrrh glad tidings, for having risen Thou O Christ, giving world great mercy.
Stepanowy:

When sorrow afflicteth me, hear my sickness, O Lord; to Thee do I cry.

The desertsunceasingly desire divine peace for the sensible, yet it is vain.

Glory and praise to Thee, O Spirit, as is meet, and to Thy Mother also, that we may sing the hymn of Him Who holds all things in His power.

Antiphon v.:

Upon thy mountains hast thou uplifted me, O Lord, by thy laws; thou hast enlightened thy people with goodness, that we may praise thee.

With Thy right hand Thou hast received the Word; preserve me, keep me, that sin's fire may not fall upon me.

By Thee, O Spirit, every creature is renewed, flowing again to the first: for Thou art equal in power and word with the Father.

Said to me, "Enter into the courts of the Lord," my spirit rejoiced, my heart glad.

In the house of the double doors great fear: there in the throne placed, the tribes of the earth and languages are judged.

Glory, honor, reverence, and might to the Spirit, even as to the Father is meet and fitting to offer: for there is but one essence, but not persons.
