By the hymnody of the penitential season, the first tone is sung:
Samopostupen:
Thy grave, O Warrior watchful, O dead by the descent of the great Angel was kept, proclaiming to the women the Resurrection. We glorify Thee, O Fount of our needs, we fall down before Thee, risen from the grave, and unto Thy Only God.
To the Crucifixion Thou wast fastened by a loving will, laid in the grave having been found dead, O life-giving Death: for with Thy mighty death Thou didst rend asunder the gates of hell, being raised from the dead from the age of them that are departed, as alone the Lover of Mankind.
O Theotokos,
Thee, O Mother of God, all-venerable and ever-blessed, in Thy great mercy, to Thee fleeing with love those who are sinners: for Thou hast been my intercessor in times of tribulation, and hast vouchsafed me salvation through Thine unspotted purity.
Vypodoben: Kameni zapetjanu:
Widows to the grave came with sorrow, and an angelic vision of trembling: the grave is life, a wonder to behold: for having gone forth with the teaching of the Teacher arose the resurrection: hell has captured Jesus Christ, yet because alone it is strong and mighty, it has been weakened by its weariness, fear being shattered by the sword.
On the Cross Thou hast pierced the life of all, and in the dead Thou hast made the Immortal to dwell; Thou hast risen on the third day, having raised Adam from corruption. For this sake we cry to Thee with might, O Giver of Life, Jesus Christ: Glory to Thy Resurrection, glory to Thy Descent, O Only Lover of Mankind.
Theotokos. It is fitting: Thy grave hath saved thee.
Blessed be the Reader, O Master of Readers, who hath raised up unto life them that had fallen into the deep pit of fierce wrath, and by sorrows and griefs. For thou art, O Lord, the salvation of sinners and help in time of trouble, and strong intercession; and thou savest thy servants.
Thief's repentance in paradise joy, weep thou myrrh-bearer gladness proclaim, for having risen Thou O Christ, gavest to the thief great mercy.
Stepénný:
When sorrow maketh me to sigh, hear my sickness, O Lord; for unto thee do I cry.
The deserts have an unceasing divine-worshipping desire, bringing peace to the sensible except for the senseless.
Glory and praise to Thee, O Spirit, as is meet, and to Thy Mother also, today, for we shall sing to the One Ruler.
Antiphon v.:
Upon thy mountains, O Lord, hast Thou uplifted me, enlightening Thee with virtues, that I may praise Thee.
With Thy right hand Thou hast received the Word; preserve me, keep me, that sin's fire may not fall upon me.
By Thee, O Spirit, every creature is renewed, again flowing back to the first: for Thou art equal in power and word with the Father.
Antiphon gá:
Thou hast said to me, "Enter into the courts of the Lord," my spirit rejoiceth, and my heart gladeth.
In the house of the double doors great fear: there, in the judgment seat placed, all nations and tongues are judged.
Glory, honor, worship, and power to the Spirit, as is meet and right to bring: for there is none other essence, but faces alone.
