Merciful Lord, have mercy on us: for all of us, being without understanding of eternal life, bring we this prayer to Thy Master: Merciful Lord, have mercy on us.

O Lord, have mercy on us, for in thee we have trusted: let not thy wrath light upon us, nor count our transgressions against us; but look upon us now with a favorable eye, and deliver us from our enemies: thou art God our King, and we are thy people, all our works are by thy hand, and to thee we cry.

O Lord, eternal and King of all creation, having vouchsafed me even in this hour to come to Thee, forgive me my sins which I have committed today, by deed, word, and thought: and cleanse, O Lord, my humble soul from every stain of body and spirit, and give me, O Lord, a peaceful sleep this night: that arising from my humbled bed, I may find rest in Thy holy name throughout all the days of my life, and overcome those who fight against me, both fleshly and spiritual: and deliver me, O Lord, from vain thoughts which defile me, and from evil desires.

O All-powerful, Word of the Most High, most perfect and holy Jesus Christ, Thou hast never ceased to struggle for me, Thy unworthy servant, but ever dwellest within me. O Lord, our Good Shepherd, do not deliver me into the hands of my enemies, nor suffer Satan to abide in me, since he abideth in sevenfold darkness. For Thou art the Lord invoked by the holy Theotokos, sleeping yet preserving me with an unquenchable light in Thy holy home, where Thou didst rest as her Teacher. Give also unto me, Thy unworthy servant, a repose upon my own bed: enlighten my soul with Thy light, loving it with the love of Thine own Theotokos, and with Thy precious words warm my heart, and with Thy passionless strength strengthen my body: keep my thoughts in Thy humility, and raise me up at the time to be like Thy glorious praise for ever. O Lord, heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, have mercy on me, a sinful servant of Thine, and forgive me my unworthy prayer, and blot out all my transgressions, for I have sinned today both as a man and more than a man, even as the sin of a beast: voluntary sins and involuntary, known and unknown, from youth to old age, and from schooling, and also from oppression and sorrow. Even in the name of Thine have I spoken evil, and blasphemed in my thoughts: I have grieved, I have slandered, I have saddened, I have been angry, I have lied, I have labored in vain: I have received a beggar and despised him: I have grieved my brother, I have grieved at weddings, I have judged someone: I have quarreled, I have become proud, I have become angry: I have stood praying with my sin before Thee, moving Thy holy hand of peace in this world: I have had evil thoughts, I have committed adultery, I have stolen, and by laughter I was ensnared: I have thought wickedly, I have seen goodness and was deceived thereby: I have spoken unseemly words, I have mocked my brother's sin, for mine are countless sins: I have not prayed with diligence, and even what evil I did I do not remember: yet all these and greater have I done. Forgive me, O Creator, Master of Thy unworthy servant: and leave me, blot out, and forgive me, for Thou art good and lover of mankind: that I may lie down in peace, sleep and rest, the penitent, sinful and weeping I: and I will prostrate myself, and praise Thee, and glorify Thy most holy name, with the Father and the Only-begotten Son, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. O Thou, who hast brought forth the life eternal, and dost reward with great gifts the immortal King, most bountiful and loving of souls; for having been idle in Thy longing, and doing nothing good, Thou hast led me to the end of this day, turning and saving my soul. Be merciful to me, O sinful and naked one, and uncover all my works of evil: raise up my fallen soul, which has been defiled by countless sins, and let all my wicked thoughts be made visible in this life. Forgive my transgressions, alone sinless One; for I have sinned today both knowingly and unknowingly, by word, deed, thought, and all my feelings. Thou Thyself coverest me from every opposing resistance with Thine ineffable loving-kindness and power. Cleanse, O Lord, the multitude of my sins. Willingly grant, O Lord, to deliver me from the nets of the wicked, and save my sinful soul, and enlighten me with the light of Thy face: when Thou comest in glory. And now let not my sleep be unseasonable, nor with thoughts; and keep unwaveringly the thought of Thy servant, and utterly destroy all the works of Satan from me: and enlighten our heart's understanding, that we may not fall into death. Send to us an angel of peace, guardian and instructor of soul and body, that he may deliver me from my enemies: when I arise with Thee, let me bring Thee thanksgiving prayers. Hear me, O sinless and holy Lord, by Thy will and conscience: grant me to learn by Thy words, and drive far away the evil spirits from me: and bless Thou my holy Theotokos, who gave us a defense for our sins, and receive this praying one on our behalf: for we know that Thy loving-kindness follows us, and our prayers do not cease. By this defense, and by this sign of Thy great mercy, and all Thy saints, keep Thou my holy soul with Thee forever. For Thou art, and art glorified to the ages. Amen.
