Merciful Lord, have mercy on us: for all of us are senseless in sin, and this our prayer we offer before Thee, O Master, as sinners. Have mercy on us.

O Lord, have mercy upon us, for in thee we have trusted: let not thy wrath light upon us, nor count our sins against us; but look upon us now with a favorable eye and deliver us from our enemies: thou art God our King, and we thy people, all our works are by thy hand, and to thee we cry.

O Lord, eternal and King of all creation, having vouchsafed me even in this hour to come to Thee, forgive me my sins which I have committed today, by deed, word, and thought: and cleanse, O Lord, my humble soul from every stain of body and spirit, and give me, O Lord, a peaceful sleep this night: that arising from my humble bed, I may find blessing in Thy holy name throughout all the days of my life, and overcome those who fight against me, both fleshly and spiritual: and deliver me, O Lord, from thoughts of vain things, defiling me, and from the lusts of the wicked.

O All-Ruling Lord, Word of God, most perfect Son, Jesus Christ, many prayers for me, Thy servant, have never ceased to beseech Thee; but ever abide in me. O Jesus Christ, good Shepherd of Thy flocks, do not deliver me into the hands of my enemies, and let not Satan prevail against me, since there is poison in him. Thou art the Lord invoked by the holy Theotokos, lying asleep preserved by an unquenchable light in her holy home, to whom Thou didst grant Thy teaching. Give also to me, Thy unworthy servant, rest upon my bed: enlighten my soul with Thy light, love my spirit according to Thine own love, receive my heart with Thy words, make my body with Thy passion free from passions: preserve my thoughts with Thy humility, and raise me up in time like unto Thy glorious praise. O Lord, heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, have mercy on me, a sinner, and forgive me, who am unworthy; and blot out my sins, both voluntary and involuntary, known and unknown, from my youth until now: even as man is more sinful than any beast. My voluntary sins and involuntary, known and unknown, confessed and unconfessed, from my youth until now: even as I have sinned in thought, word, deed, or desire; even as I have despised thee by my deeds, and by my words, and by my thoughts; even as I have wronged others, and been wronged by them; even as I have offended Thee through my prayers, by my unrighteousness in this world: even as I have had evil thoughts, and have envied the good of another, and thereby was wounded in spirit; even as I have spoken things unsuitable, and laughed at the sin of my brother, for which my sins are countless: even as I have been unwilling to pray, and done other wicked things, which I do not remember: yet all these and greater have I done. Forgive me, O Creator, my Lord and unworthy servant; and leave me not, but blot them out, and forgive me, for Thou art good and lover of mankind: that I may lie down in peace, rest, and sleep, O sinner, sinful and miserable. And I will prostrate myself, and praise Thee, and glorify Thy most holy name, with the Father and the Son, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

What hast thou brought, or what wilt thou give, O great-gifted immortal King, most bountiful and loving of the Lord; for having been idle in thy desire, and doing nothing good, thou hast led me to the end of this day's journey, turning and saving my soul. Be mindful of my sinfulness, O sinful one, and be uncovered in all thy works of goodness: raise up my fallen soul, defiled by countless sins, and let all my thoughts of wickedness be made visible in this life. Forgive my transgressions, only Thou who art without sin; for I have sinned today both knowingly and unknowingly, by word, deed, thought, and all my senses. Thou Thyself coverest me from every opposing resistance with Thine ineffable love and power. Cleanse, O Lord, the multitude of my sins. Willingly grant me deliverance from the nets of the wicked, save my sinful soul, and enlighten me with the light of Thy face: when Thou comest in glory. And let not my sleep be unseasonably made; and let not my thoughts be without reflection: and keep the thought of Thy servant undefiled, and all Satan's offspring from me. Enlighten our understanding hearts, that we may not fall into death. Send us an angel of peace, guardian and instructor of soul and body, that he may protect me from my enemies: when I arise with Thee, let me bring thee thanksgiving prayers. Hearken to Thy sinful and righteous servant, by will and conscience: grant me to learn by thy words, and drive far away the evil spirits from me: and bless Thou my standing, and glorify, praise, and magnify the Most Holy Theotokos, who gave us a defense against our sins, and receive this praying unto us. For we know that Thy lovingkindness doth not cease, and I pray unceasingly. By this defense, and by this sign of thy covenant, and for all thy saints' sake, keep me, O holy soul, in the keeping of the Lord: for Thou art, and art glorified to the ages. Amen.
