Let us keep a fast, O Lord, a fast worthy of Thee, a true and acceptable fast, the overcoming of evil deeds, the mastery of speech, the suppression of wrath, the separation from desires, lying, and perjury—the understanding of these things is true fasting.

Martyr: Great is the power of Thy martyrs, O Christ; for they lie in graves and drive out evil spirits, and have abolished the power of the Enemy by their struggle with faith in the Holy Trinity for the sake of piety.
