1. Oh, Heavenly Beast! When will the time come for me to be completely devoured by You, not by any other fire, but by the fire of Your love? When, O uncreated Love, O Bread of Life! When will I begin to live alone with You, for You alone and in You alone? When, O my Life, red Life, sweet and eternal Life, Manna from heaven, when, turning away from every other earthly waste, will I begin to lust after You alone and feed on You alone? When will this happen, O my all-satisfying Sweetness, O my supreme good! Oh, my Lord, most exalted and all-gracious! Pluck this poor heart of mine from the bonds of every addiction and every unkind inclination, decorate it with Your holy virtues and fill it with such good disposition that I can do everything with all sincerity only for the sole purpose of pleasing You!
Then I will finally achieve the point that, having opened my heart to You, no longer unworthy of You, I will call on You and force You into it with love; You, my Lord, having entered inside, will begin, without encountering resistance, to perform there all the effects that you usually perform in souls devoted to You.
2. I am not worthy, my Lord, to receive You, for I have angered You so many times with my sins, and have not yet mourned all such wicked deeds of mine. I am not worthy, my Lord, to receive You, for I have not yet cleansed myself of dispositions and predilections for that which is not pleasing to You. I am not worthy, my Lord, to receive You, for I have not yet surrendered with all sincerity to love for You, to Your will and obedience to You. O my God, omnipotent and immeasurably good! You Yourself, in Your all-generous love for mankind, deign me to receive You, flowing to You with faith.
