O One Immortal and Unchanging Lord, for Thy ineffable mercy towards man, Thou didst receive into Thyself our whole mixture from the blood of the incarnate and double-natured, being born not by nature but by the will of God, through the divine-human host, by Thy gracious presence and will, preserving us in peace, life, and strength. By Thy reception of the life-giving and saving sufferings, Thou hast conquered death, O my soul’s unchanging suffering. By Thy burial, O Lord, the captive kingdom was buried; by Thy holy thoughts, my evil counsels and craftiness were destroyed.

By Thy three-day and life-giving resurrection, Thou didst raise up the fallen father, raising me also who had fallen through sin, presenting to me an image of repentance. By Thy glorious ascension, Thou didst sanctify the reception, and by Thy divine seat, Thou hast granted me to partake of Thy holy mysteries with a pure heart. By the coming of Thy Comforter in a dream, Thou didst show me the vessels consecrated by Thee, preparing a place for me.

Wilt Thou again come to judge all the world with righteousness, O Lord, and meet me on the clouds, Judge and Creator of my soul, with all Thy holy ones: that I may now and ever, and in the ages of ages, praise Thee with Thy unending Father and the Holy Place, which is life-giving. Amen.

Mercy, O God, to Saint John Damascene:

O Master, Jesus Christ, our God, who hast given us power to forgive sins: For thou art good and lover of mankind, and dost despise all my offenses whether known or unknown: And vouchsafe me to partake unworthily of thy divine, glorious, precious, life-giving mysteries: Not in hardness, nor in suffering, nor in the addition of sins, but in cleansing, and anointing, and putting on, for the attainment of eternal life and kingdom: In the wall and help, and in the repulse of adversaries, in the destruction of many of my transgressions. For thou art God, full of mercy and lover of mankind; to thee we send glory, with thine all-holy, glorious, and life-creating Church, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Mercy, O great Virgin St. Basil:

We know, O Lord, that unworthy we are to partake of Thy precious Body and Blood; and we confess our sinfulness, judging ourselves and drinking thereof, not pondering the Body and Blood of Thee, O God, nor of My God: but daring on account of Thine abundance, we come to Thee, saying: Give my flesh, drink my blood, which is in me, and I am in it.

O Lord, have mercy upon us, and do not judge me, the sinner; but work with me according to Thy will. And may I be made holy, cleansed, enlightened, preserved, saved, both soul and body: in the burning of all my thoughts, and of evil deeds, and of devilish works, in my heart's actions.

In boldness and love towards Thee, for correction of life, and establishment, in return to virtues and perfection: in the fulfillment of Thy commandments, in the strength of Thy grace, in the light of eternal life, in the glory pleasing before Thy fearful judgment: not into judgment or condemnation.

Mercy Thee, O Holy One, hath been newly named with God's Word:

Blessed be the bitter sorrows, from the foul heart, from the unclean tongue, from the soul that defiles, receive my prayer, O Theotokos, and despise not my words, neither my forms, nor my ignorance. Give me boldness to speak, as thou wilt, O Theotokos. More than this, teach me what is fitting for me to do and say. I have sinned more than the harlot, who was led into thy house, having bought ointment with her tears, to anoint thine feet, O my God, Master and Theotokos. As she did not hide herself from coming to thee with boldness, but rather saying: “Give me to kiss thy feet, and hold them, and kiss them, and with streaming tears, as a most precious ointment, anoint them boldly.” Wipe away my tears with thine eyes, cleanse me by them, saying: “Leave off and forgive all my sins, and grant me repentance.” Weigh my sighs, weigh my fetters, and behold their number; but also weigh my faith, and the will, and the groanings. Hide not from thy sight, O my God, Creator, Saviour, a single tear. For in thy book it is written that I have not done this thing: yet still it is not written there. Behold my humility, behold my toil, and forgive all my sins, both mine own and those of all men; that with a clean heart, with a contrite mind, and a broken spirit, I may partake of thy holy mysteries, by which are quickened and sanctified every soul. For thou hast said, O Master: “Every body and blood of me, in this very body, abideth, in it am I.” Truly the word is true, O my God: for those who partake of thy Body and Blood, not only am I one with thee, but together we are a threefold light, enlightening the world. For there shall be no other life except thine, O Giver of Life, breath of my breath, joy of my joy, comforter of my soul. For this cause have I come to thee, with tears and a contrite heart, that thou mayest deliver me from my sins, and partake of thy unspotted mysteries, not being led away by the delusion of the stranger, nor deceived by the words of those who work thy miracles. For this cause do I now fall down before thee, knowing as another, that I have not sinned against thee, neither in a day’s time, for I have done nothing. But we know also that neither the greatness of sins, nor their multitude, can exceed thy great patience and boundless love: but with warm compassion thou dost cleanse, and enlighten, and make light those who partake of thy mysteries, without envy, as if they were angels and men in many ways speaking truly. This boldness worketh in me, this putteth me to shame, O my God. By thy rich gifts, rejoicing together with trembling, we partake of the fire, a green herb, and a strange wonder, being watered not by fire, as if a heap of dry wood were burning. Now with thankful heart, with a grateful spirit, with grateful hymns, with soul and body, I fall down before thee, and glorify thee, O my God, for thou art blessed now and forever.

Mercy, O John the Golden-Throated:

Lord, strengthen me, support me, forgive my transgressions, if I have sinned, whether by word, deed, thought, will, whether willingly or unwillingly, knowingly or unknowingly; all these things forgive me, for Thou art good and lover of mankind: and with Thy prayers, O Lord, mayest Thou intercede through the holy and mighty servants of Thine, and all the saints from ages past, uncondemned by Thy good will to receive my place and Thy precious body, and Thy precious blood, for the healing of my soul and body, and for the cleansing of my wicked thoughts. For Thou art the Church, and power, and glory, with Thy holy and mighty house, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
