O One Immortal and Unchanging Lord, for Thy ineffable mercy towards man, Thou hast received into Thy divine and precious body the mixture of human and animal blood, that by Thine own heavenly and voluntary descent, by Thy kingly will, Thou mightest bear in our fleshly tabernacles, peace, and strength. By Thy reception, O Life-giving and Saviour suffering, Thou didst pierce, O Crowned One, nails, spear, death, the spiritual sufferings of my soul and the bodily passions.

By Thy burial, O Lord, the realm of death was conquered; by Thy holy thoughts, O Lord, my carnal counsels and craftiness were buried. By Thy three-day life-giving resurrection, Thou didst raise up the fallen first man, raising me also who have fallen through sin, presenting to me an image of repentance.

By Thy glorious ascension, Thou didst sanctify the reception, and by Thy right hand Thou hast granted me to partake of Thy holy mysteries. By the coming of the Comforter, O Lord, Thou hast made vessels worthy, showing me Thy coming.

Wilt Thou again judge all creation with righteousness, grant me to meet Thee on the clouds, Judge and Creator of mine, with all Thy saints: that I may now and ever, and in ages of ages, praise Thee with Thy eternal Father and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Mighty in mercy, O holy John the Damascene:

Master Jesus Christ, our God, who hast given unto man the power to sin: Forasmuch as Thou art most good and lover of mankind, despise Thou my every sin both in knowledge and ignorance; and vouchsafe me to partake unworthily of Thy divine, glorious, precious, and life-giving mysteries: not by weight, nor by suffering, nor by the addition of sins, but by cleansing, consecration, and anointing, that I may be made worthy of the hope of life and resurrection. For Thou art God of Mercy and Lover of mankind; and unto Thee we send glory, with Thy Father and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Mercy, O Virgin most pure:

We know, O Lord, that unworthy we are to partake of Thy precious Body and Blood; and we confess our sin, judging ourselves as we drink, not pondering the Body and Blood of Thy Christ: but daring on account of Thy bounty, we have come to Thee, saying: Give my flesh, and drink my blood, which is in me. Have mercy on us, O Lord, and do not condemn me, a sinner; but work with me according to Thy will: and may I be made holy by Thy grace, cleansed, enlightened, preserved, saved, both soul and body: in the anguish of all my thoughts, and of every wicked deed, and of the works of the devil, in my heart's imaginings. In boldness and love toward Thee, for correction of life and confirmation, for return to virtue and perfection: in fulfillment of Thy commandments, in the gift of holiness, in guidance of eternal life, in the light blessedly acceptable on Thy fearful judgment: not into judgment or condemnation.

Mercy, Thee, hath been newly named with the Lord's own mouth.

Alas for the foul stains, from the filthy heart, from the unclean tongue, from the soul defiled! Receive my prayer, O Theotokos, and despise not my words, neither my forms, nor my ignorance. Grant me boldness to speak as Thou wilt, O Theotokos. More than this, teach me what I ought to do and say. I have sinned more than the harlot, who was led into the place where Thou didst anoint Thyself with ointment, O Lord My God, Master and Theotokos. As she did not shrink from applying her tears to Thine feet, so also do Thou give me boldness to kiss them, hold them, and kiss them again with tearful sobs as with precious ointment. Wipe away my tears with Thy eyes; cleanse me with them: "Forgive me, O Lord My God, Creator of mine, Deliverer of mine." Weigh the multitude of my sins, weigh my fetters, and see their number: but also weigh faith, will, and sighing. Do not hide from Thee, O My Maker, Saviour, and Redeemer, a single tear drop or part thereof. Thou seest my humility, Thou seest my labor; forgive me all my sins, both mine own and those of all men. That I may stand clean in heart, with a contrite mind, and a broken spirit, to partake of Thy pure and holy mysteries, by which all are quickened and sanctified. For indeed Thou hast said, O Master: "Every member of My flesh and blood, in this body of mine, abides; in it am I." Truly the Word of all is Thee and God Mine: for those who partake of Thy divine Mysteries and work miracles receive not only one life but with Thee, O Theotokos, a threefold light enlightening the world. For truly Thou art not alone to abide with Me, O Life, Breath, Joy, and Comfort of mine; lest some stranger or deceiver be led by Thy words to deceive those who work miracles. Therefore I now come to Thee with tears and a contrite heart, that Thou mayest take away my sins, and partake of Thy unspotted Mysteries without condemnation. Thus, as Thou hast said, with threefold prayer: "That no stranger or deceiver may lead me astray from Thy blessings, nor the deceitful charm of those who work miracles." With a contrite heart I now come to Thee, knowing that like another, I have not sinned against Thee; but I have labored day by day. But we know also that neither the greatness of sin nor its multitude can exceed Thy great patience and boundless love: for with warm compassion Thou dost cleanse, enlighten, and create partakers of Thy divine Mysteries without envy: and Thou dost converse many times with them as with Thy true friends. This boldness doth work in me, this doth put me to shame, O Theotokos. By Thy abundant grace, rejoicing together, trembling, we partake of the fire, a strange wonder, being watered not by fire but by the ancient oil that burns. Now with thankful heart, with a grateful spirit, and with thankful hymns, I offer my soul and body to Thee, O My God, blessed evermore.

Mercy, O Anne, of the golden mouth:

Lord, strengthen me, sustain me, forgive my transgressions, if I have sinned, whether by word, deed, thought, willfully or unwillingly, knowingly or unknowingly; all of them, O good and lover of mankind: and through thy prayers, O Merciful One, mayest thou exalt the might of thy holy servants and thy mighty powers, and all thy holy ones from ages past, uncondemned by thy good pleasure to receive me with honor and with praise, and with thy precious blood, for the healing of my soul and body, and for the purification of my wicked thoughts. For thine is the kingdom, and power, and glory, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
