O One Immortal and Unchanging Lord, for Thy ineffable mercy toward man, Thou hast received into Thy mingled and double nature, more than natural, by Thine own divine will and the good pleasure of Thy Son, our very being, life, peace, and strength. By Thy reception of the life-giving and saving sufferings, Thou dost conquer the stars, the gates, death, and my soul’s bodily passions. By Thy burial, O Lord, Thou hast buried the kingdom of the enemy, and by Thy holy thoughts Thou hast cast out my evil counsels and deceitful spirits.

By Thy three-day life-giving resurrection, Thou hast raised up the fallen first man, and Thou hast raised me up from sin that has grown in me, presenting to me an image of repentance. By Thy glorious ascension, Thou hast sanctified the reception, and by Thy divine throne Thou hast granted me to partake of Thy holy mysteries with a pure heart.

By the coming of the Comforter, Thou hast made vessels most holy, and Thou hast shown me Thy presence. May I again be judged in all the world by Thy righteousness, O Lord, and meet Thee on the clouds as Judge and Creator of mine own self, together with all Thy saints: that I may now and ever praise Thee with Thy unending Father and Thy throne, and with Thy glory and life-giving house, for ever and ever. Amen.

Mercy, O God, to Saint John Damascus:

O Master, Jesus Christ, our God, who hast given us power over sin to forgive: For thou art good and lover of mankind, and despisest my every sin whether known or unknown: And vouchsafe me to partake unworthily of thy divine, glorious, precious, life-giving mysteries: Not in hardness, nor in suffering, nor in the addition of sins, but in cleansing, and consecration, and anointing, for the attainment of eternal life and kingdom: In strength and help, and in repelling adversaries, in the extirpation of many of my transgressions. For thou art God, full of mercy and lover of mankind: Unto thee we send glory, with thine all-holy, glorious, and life-creating Church, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Mercy, O Virgin most pure:

We know, O Lord, that unworthy we are to partake of Thy precious Body and Blood; and we confess our sinfulness, judging ourselves and drinking, not reasoning about the Body and Blood of Thy Christ: but daring on account of Thy bounty, we have come to Thee, saying: Give my flesh, and drink my blood, which is in me. Have mercy on me, O Lord, and do not condemn me for my sin; but work with me according to Thy will: and may I be made holy by Thy healing, cleansing, enlightening, preserving, and saving, both soul and body: in the burning of all vain thoughts, and of evil deeds, and of the works of the devil in my thoughts. In boldness and love towards Thee, for correction of life and strengthening, for return to virtue and perfection: in fulfillment of Thy commandments, in common prayer, in guidance of eternal life, in the light blessedly pleasing on Thy fearful judgment: not into judgment or condemnation.

Mercy, Thee, hath been newly vouchsafed by God.

Oft in sore temptations, from the foul heart, from unclean speech, from the soul defiled, receive my prayer, O Theotokos, and despise not my words, neither my forms, nor my ignorance. Give me boldness to speak, as thou wilt, O Theotokos. More than this, teach me what I ought to do and say. I have sinned more than the harlot, who was led into thy house, having bought ointment with her tears, to anoint thine feet, O my God, Master and Theotokos. As she did not hide herself from coming to thee with boldness, but saying: "Give me to kiss thy feet, and hold them, and kiss them with tears, as with a costly ointment." Wipe away my tears with thine eyes, cleanse me by them, saying: "Cease from me, O my sins, and give me repentance." Weigh the multitude of my sins, weigh also my labors; and though thou seest them, yet have faith in me, and grant me remission. For not even one drop of my unrighteousness is hidden from thine eyes: it is written in thy book, and still more unrighteousness is there inscribed. Behold my humility, behold my labor, and all my sins I leave to thee, O my God, all-embracing. That I may be clean of heart, thoughtful, and humbled in spirit, partake of thy pure and holy mysteries, by which one is quickened and sanctified. For thou hast said, O Master: "Every member of my flesh and blood, in this body of mine abideth, in whom also I am." Verily, the word of truth is from thee, O God of my life: for partaking of thy mysteries and performing thy works, I am not alone, but with thee, O Theotokos, a threefold light enlightening the world. That I may abide not alone, but with thee, the Giver of Life, breath of my life, joy of my life, comforter of the world. For this cause have I come to thee, as thou seest, with tears and a humbled soul, that thou mayest deliver me from my sins, and partake of thy unspotted and pure mysteries unsullied. That thou mayest abide, as thou hast said, triply: that no one may find me, the seducer, by deceitful words, lead me astray, and deceive those who perform thy works. For this cause I now come to thee with a humbled soul, knowing well, like another, not to sin against thee, nor to do anything evil; but we know also that neither the greatness of sins nor their multitude surpasseth thy many long-suffering and extreme love for man: but by thy warm compassion thou cleansest, enlightenest, and makethest light for partakers, making them partake of thy mysteries without envy. And thou speakest with them many times, as with thy true friends, strange and angelic, and human thoughts, conversing with them often. This boldness worketh in me, this putteth me to shame, O Theotokos. And by thy rich gifts, rejoicing together, trembling, partaking of the fire, like green grass, and a strange wonder, being watered not with fire, as if a cup of ancient wine were burning. Now with thankful heart, with a grateful heart, with my blessed prayers, with my soul and body, I bow down before thee, glorifying thee, O my God, because thou art blessed now and for ever.

Mercy, O John the Golden-Throated:

Lord, strengthen me, support me, forgive my transgressions, if I have sinned, whether by word, deed, thought, will, whether willingly or unwillingly, whether with understanding or without, all of them thou forgive, for thou art good and lover of mankind: and by thy prayers, O mighty and holy Theotokos, and by the strength of thy holy servants and saints, and all holy ones from ages past, graciously receive my unworthy and precious body, and pure blood, for healing both soul and body, and for cleansing my evil thoughts. For thine is the kingdom, and power, and glory, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
