Unwise reason, when enlightened by the Holy Spirit, was in drunkenness with the holy fathers, a defender of the Orthodox faith: for even thou didst confess with the Father, being co-present and co-throned, and didst reveal the folly of the foolish. Therefore, O faithful, learn to sing to Thee:

Rejoice, O Pillar of Great Piety:

By the power given Thee from on high, Thou didst weep all tears from the faces of those fiercely assailing, O Comforter, most merciful One: for Thou didst feed the hungry, a nourishing ruler in the midst of the stormy seas, a healing physician for the sick, and a helper to all, showing Thyself to them that cried unto God: Gloria.

Though we strive to quench the godless heretical flame with foul-smelling oil, truly holy and mysterious myrrh did willfully veil itself: people of the world have anointed themselves, and by their own divine ointment fulfilled all: and from us there came a hateful sin-flame, that we might worthily cry to God: Glory.

O all-powerful and all-holy Archbishop, great miracle-worker, saint of Christ, O Nicholas, man of God and faithful servant, desired husband, chosen vessel, strong pillar of the Church, light-bearer, most radiant star shining and illuminating all creation! Thou art the first-born, as a flower that blossoms in the courts of Thy Lord: alive in the world, Thou wast covered with myrrh, and from it flowed forth the sweet fragrance of God’s mercy. By Thy journeying, O glorious Father, the sea was stilled; when many wonders of Thine power journeyed through the city of Bar, praising Thee from east to west.

O surpassingly wonderful and marvelous miracle-worker, swift helper, warm protector, good shepherd, saving the wordless flock from all calamities! We glorify Thee and we honor Thee, for Thou art the hope of all Christians, fount of wonders, defender of the faithful, wise teacher, almighty sustainer, we who are hungry with food, weeping with joy, naked with clothing, sick with healing, drowning in peril with salvation, imprisoned with freedom, widows and orphans with sustenance and protector, guardian of the whole-hearted, gentle chastiser of infants, instructor of the elderly, guide of those in fasting, laborers in peace, poor and rich with abundant wealth. Hear us, O praying to Thee and fleeing under Thy roof; for through Thy intercession and warm pleading before the Most High, Thou dost bring forth all good for our souls and bodies: preserve this monastery [and this church] and all the city, and all Christian lands, and all people dwelling therein, by Thy gracious prayers from every kind of help. For we know that many a prayer is mighty, hastening to good: before Thee, O most holy, with the blessing of two thousand years, as our intercessor before all-merciful God, we humbly beseech Thee for Thy warm pleading and protection.

Keep us, O good shepherd, from every enemy, destruction, fear, plague, fire, sword, invasion, and all our sorrows; open to us the doors of mercy. For we are unworthy to behold the height of heavenly glory, because of the multitude of our iniquities: bound by the chains of sin, neither have we created nor preserved the commandments of Our Lord. Therefore, with bowed heads and humbled hearts, we prostrate ourselves before our Builder, and Thy paternal intercession before Him; we beseech Thee, O good husband, that Thou mayest not let us perish through our unrighteousness: deliver us from every evil and from all things opposing us, guide us, and strengthen our heart in the right faith by Thy intercession and pleading, neither with wounds nor with reproofs, nor with death, nor any anger of our Creator; but that we may live peaceably here, and be worthy to see the good on earth, praising Father and Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

O all-holy Nicholas, ever-merciful Lord, warm our protector and ever ready to help in times of distress! Help me, the sinful and weary one, in this present life; pray to the Lord God that He grant me forgiveness of all my sins, both from my youth until now, in every part of my life, in deed, word, thought, and all my feelings: and at the departure of my soul, help me with thy intercession. Pray to the Lord God for all creation, that it may assist and deliver me from aerial punishments and eternal suffering: so that I may always glorify the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Most merciful Father Nicholas, shepherd and teacher of all, by faith coming to thy intercession and with warm prayer invoking thee! Swiftly hasten and deliver the Lord's flock from wolves destroying it: and every land of Christians guard and preserve with thy holy prayers from worldly strife, fear, invasion, and internecine warfare, from famine, flood, fire, sword, and sudden death. And as thou didst forgive three men sitting in prison and delivered them from the anger of the king and the stroke of the sword: so also forgive me, O Soul, by word and deed in the darkness of sinful existence, and deliver me from the wrath of God and eternal punishment: that through thy intercession and help, with thy own mercy and grace, the peace of Christ may give me to live in this present age without sin, and deliver me from the torments of hell, and grant my right hand to be with all saints for ever and ever. Amen.
