Unwise reason, when enlightened by the Holy Spirit, was in drunkenness with the holy fathers a defender of the Orthodox faith: for even thou didst confess with the wise, being present and standing before them, while thou didst also reveal the madness of the foolish. Therefore, O faithful, learn to sing to thee:

Rejoice, O Pillar of Great Piety:

By the power given Thee from on high, Thou didst weep all tears from the face of those fiercely assailing, O Saviour, Lord: for Thou didst feed the hungry, a nourishing Ruler in the midst of the stormy seas, a Healer unailing, and didst show Thyself to all as Helper, crying out to God: Gloria.

Blessed Star shone forth, guiding those who were drowning in the fierce tempests of life, and suddenly death stood before them near at times; yet even then, when thou didst not appear to be called upon by them beseeching thee for help, O Wonderworker Nicholas: verily, thou wast not ashamed to let loose the demons flying about, and to cause them to sink the ships desiring to perish; but thou taughtest the faithful to cry unto God: Glory to thee.

Though we strive to quench the godless heretical fire with foul-smelling oil, truly holy and mysterious myrrh did will not: for men of the world have anointed themselves, and by His holy myrrh the whole world was filled: and from us there came a hateful sin against God, that we might worthily cry to God: Glorify.

O all-praiseworthy and most glorious archbishop, great wonderworker, saint of Christ, O Nicholas, man of God and faithful servant, desired husband, chosen vessel, strong pillar of the Church, light bearer, bright star shining and enlightening all the world! Thou art the first-born, as a flower that hath flourished, planted in the courts of Thy Lord: alive in the world, Thou didst cover Thyself with the world, and from it floweth forth the divine grace of God. By Thy going forth, O glorious Father, the sea was made to stand still, when many wonders of Thine power went forth into the city of Bar, praising Thee from east to west.

O most marvellous and wonderful wonderworker, quick to help, warm protector, good shepherd, saving the word-faithful from all calamities! We glorify Thee and we exalt Thee, for Thou art the hope of all Christians, source of wonders, defender of the faithful, wise teacher, lover of the hungry, comforter of those in tears, provider to the naked, physician to the sick, pilot to those perishing by the sea, liberator of captives, sustainer of widows and orphans, guardian of the whole body, chastiser of the young, instructor of the penitent, guide of the ascetics, worker of peace, poor and rich in abundance. Hear us, O intercessor, who pray to Thee and flee under Thy roof; for through Thy prayers, most glorious Father, Thou art a mediator before all-merciful God, and by Thine warm entreaties and intercession we beseech Thee with humility.

Keep this monastery [and this church] and the whole city, and every Christian land, and those living in them, from all calamities through Thy gracious prayers: for we know that prayer of the first-born is mighty, hastening to good. To Thee, O most glorious one, by the blessing of two holy myrrh-flowing tombs, as a mediator before all-merciful God, and before Thine own, most glorious Father, with warm entreaties and intercession we come beseeching Thee humbly.

Keep us, O good shepherd, from all enemies, destruction, fear, famine, plague, fire, sword, invasion of our kinsmen, and in all our sorrows and tribulations, give us Thy hand for help, and open the doors of mercy to us: for we are unworthy to behold the height of heavenly glory, because of the multitude of our sins. We are bound by the chains of sin, and neither have we created nor preserved the commandments of Him. Therefore, with bowed heads and humbled hearts before our Creator, and Thy own intercession before Him, we beseech Thee: help us, O good husbandman, that we may not perish through our unrighteousness; deliver us from all evil and from every thing opposing us, guide us, strengthen our heart in the right faith by Thy intercession and entreaties, neither by wounds nor by chastisement, nor by sickness, nor by any wrath of our Creator, but let us live peaceably here, and be worthy to see the good things on earth, praising Father and Son and Holy Spirit, the One glorified and worshipped God now and forever. Amen.

O all-holy Nicholas, ever-merciful Lord, fervent our intercessor, and everywhere in our sorrows a speedy helper! Help me, the sinful and wearied one, in this present life; pray to the Lord God that He grant me forgiveness of all my sins, both from my youth until now, in every part of my life, by deed, word, thought, and all my feelings: and at the departure of my soul, help me with thy intercession. Pray to the Lord God for all creation, that it may deliver me from aerial punishments and eternal suffering: so that I always glorify the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Most merciful Father Nicholas, shepherd and teacher of all, by faith coming to thy intercession and with warm prayer calling upon thee! Swiftly hasten and deliver the Lord's flock from wolves destroying it: and every land of Christians guard and preserve with thy constant prayers from worldly strife, fear, invasion, and internecine warfare, from famine, flood, fire, sword, and sudden death. And as thou didst forgive three men sitting in prison and delivered them from the king's wrath and the stroke of the sword: so also forgive me, O my soul, by word and deed in the darkness of sins existing, and deliver me from the wrath of God and eternal punishment: that through thy intercession and help, with thy own mercy and grace, the peace of Christ may give me to live in this present age without sin, and deliver me from the torments of hell, and grant my right hand to be with all saints for ever and ever. Amen.
