Who gave the ten commandments of God's law and to whom?

These commandments were given by God Himself on Mount Sinai through Moses to the Jewish people when he was returning from Egypt to the land of Canaan.

What were these commandments written on?

On two stone boards (or tablets). The first four commandments contain the duties of love for God, the last six contain the duties of love for one's neighbor (i.e., all people).

How is the first commandment of God's law read?

I am the Lord thy God: let not thee be gods, unless I

Az – I. Yes - let it be. Bozi are gods. Inii - different, different. Except - except.

What does God command with this commandment?

To know and honor Him alone, i.e. commands to believe in Him, hope in Him, love Him, obey His will, pray to Him and not have any other gods besides Him.

Where can we best know God?

From the Holy Scriptures.

How should we honor angels and holy people?

They should be revered not as we honor God Himself, but as the servants closest to God, and we should pray to them so that they ask God for mercy for us.

Who sins against God's first commandment?

Anyone who preaches or accepts any false teaching contrary to the teaching of the Orthodox Church (heretic) sins against it; who does not obey the Orthodox Church and moves away from it (schismatic); who believes in the secret powers of creatures and tries to act with them; who is guessing; who blindly believes ordinary events in life, giving them Divine power; who is lazy to learn the Law of God, and who trusts more in man than in God.

How did God once punish people for forgetting God, true faith in Him and His holy law?

The global flood.

What is God's second commandment?

Thou shalt not make for thyself an idol or any likeness, a tree in the heavens, and a tree on the earth below, and a tree in the waters under the earth: thou shalt not bow down to them, nor serve them.

An idol is an idol, an idol, in general, any thing or creature that people revere as the true God. Any likeness is any image of earthly objects. Elika – what. Grief is at the top. Below - below. Below - and not.

What does God forbid with this commandment?

Prohibits the worship of idols or any material images of an invented deity.

What do the pagans bow to?

In the sky: sun, moon, stars; on earth: animals, birds, plants; in water: fish, reptiles, etc.

Isn't it a sin to bow to icons?

It is not a sin to bow to icons or images, because when we pray in front of icons, we bow not to wood or paints, but to God depicted on the icon or to His saints, imagining them in our minds before us.

The third commandment of God:

Do not take the name of the Lord your God in vain

If you don’t take it, don’t take it, don’t use it. In vain - in vain.

With this commandment, God forbids using the name of God when it should not, for example, in jokes, in empty conversations. The same commandment prohibits:

blasphemy against God (the Jews blasphemed the Lord, saying that He casts out demons by the power of Beelzebub - the prince of demons: Matt. 12:24);

murmuring against Him (the Jews repeatedly grumbled against God during their wanderings through the Arabian desert: Numbers 2:4-6);

lying under oath;

blasphemy (Belshazzar, the last king of Babylon, feasting with his nobles, drank wine from the sacred vessels of the Temple of Solomon, stolen by Nebuchadnezzar; for this blasphemy he was killed that same night, and other nations took possession of his kingdom);

to worship unnecessarily, and especially in untruth, which constitutes a grave sin before God.

When can and should one use the name of God?

When we pray, we conduct pious conversations, when, at the request of our superiors, we swear, we take an oath, and in all these cases we must use the name of God with fear and reverence.

The fourth commandment of God:

Remember the Sabbath day, keep it holy; You shall do six days, and in them you shall do all your work; and on the seventh day, the Sabbath, to the Lord your God

Saturday - peace, rest. The Sabbath day is a holiday. Hedgehog - so that. To sanctify a day is to do good deeds on a famous day.

What does God command with this commandment?

He commands us to work six days of the week, mind our own business, and devote the seventh day to good deeds: pray to God in church, read spiritual books at home, give alms, etc.

Which of the seven days should be devoted to good deeds?

In the Old Testament, the holiday was Saturday, or that seventh day on which God, after the creation of the world, rested from all his works; from the time of the resurrection of Christ, Saturday was replaced by Sunday, or the day on which Jesus Christ was resurrected.

Besides Sundays, are there other days that need to be devoted to charitable deeds?

Eat.

These are the holidays of the Lord, such as, for example, the Nativity of Christ (Dec. 25), the Epiphany of the Lord (Jan. 6), and the Transfiguration of the Lord (Aug. 6). Feasts of the Theotokos, for example, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sept. 8), Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Aug. 15).

Holidays in honor of saints, for example, the day of the Nativity of John the Baptist (June 24), the day of the Beheading of his head (August 29), the day of the Supreme Apostles Peter and Paul (June 29).

What else is commanded by the fourth commandment?

It is commanded to observe fasts.

What fasts are established by the Orthodox Church?

1) Great Lent, or Holy Pentecost, during which we usually fast, confess and receive communion. This fast was established in imitation of the forty-day fast of the Lord Jesus Christ in the desert and was established in order for us to worthily celebrate the feast of the Resurrection of Christ. (Begins every year seven weeks (weeks) before Easter and consists of 40 days and Holy Week.)

2) Fasting before the Feast of the Nativity of Christ, or the Nativity Fast, otherwise Filippov. (Starts on November 15 - after the day of the Apostle Philip - and lasts 40 days until December 25, i.e. until the Feast of the Nativity of Christ.)

3) Dormition Fast before the Feast of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary (from August 1st to August 15th), otherwise known as Gospozhinka.

4) Petrov fast, or Petrovka. (It always begins a week after Trinity Day and continues until June 29, until the day of the apostles Peter and Paul, and therefore the duration of this fast depends on the time of Easter.)

There are also one-day fasts, or fast days, namely:
