With the holy rest, O Soul of Thy servants,
where there is no sickness, nor sorrow,
nor sighing,
but an endless life.

O Lord, have mercy, Thee.

At every hour, and in every moment, on high and on earth, we bow down before Thee, O Christ, and glorify Thee, long-suffering, full of mercy, rich in compassion, righteous to those who love Thee, merciful to sinners, Who hast called all men unto salvation for the promise of future good: Thou, our Lord, receive now our prayer at this hour, and make our life according to Thy commandments; sanctify our souls, cleanse our bodies, rectify our thoughts, purify our minds, and deliver us from every kind of tribulation and sickness: guard us by Thy holy angels; that by their intercession and instruction we may attain in unity of faith, and into the depth of Thy ineffable glory, for Thou art blessed for ever and ever. Amen.

O Lord, have mercy. [Three times.]

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, and now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Most glorious Cherubim, and most renowned Seraphim, we magnify thy unflappable words of God's glory, O Theotokos, that gave birth thereto, being ever present in thee.

By the prayers of our holy Fathers, Jesus Christ, O Lord, and Theotokos, have mercy on us, amen.

And let us pray this great prayer of basil:

O Master, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, long-suffering toward our transgressions, and even until this present hour leading us, in which we hang upon the life-giving cross, with a wise robber, whom Thou didst make to enter into paradise by death, and didst destroy death through death, cleansing us, O sinful and unworthy servants of Thy hand. For we have sinned and transgressed the law, and are not worthy to behold the face of our Lord and to look upon the heavenly heights: for we left the way of Thy righteousness, and walked in the desires of our hearts. But we pray Thee, O boundless mercy, forgive us, O Lord, according to the abundance of Thy mercy, and save us by the name of Thine own self, as even our days have vanished into vanity, and changed us from the hands of our adversaries, and left us our sins, and made our fleshly understanding dead, that we may put off the old man with its deeds, and be clothed with the new: and in Thee shall we live our life, O Lord, our Benefactor, and following Thy commandment, we shall attain to eternal rest, where is the dwelling-place of all who rejoice, for Thou art indeed the true joy and gladness of them that love Thee, our God. And unto Thee do we send forth glory, with Thy Father without beginning, and Thy Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

We begin the evening prayer.
