With the holy rest, O Soul of Thy servants,
where there is no sickness, nor sorrow,
nor sighing,
but an endless life.

O Lord, have mercy, Thee.

At every hour, and in every moment, on high and on earth, we bow down before Thee, O Christ, and glorify Thee, long-suffering, full of mercy, full of compassion, righteous to them that love Thee, merciful to them that sin against Thee, Who callest all to salvation for the promise of things to come: Thou, our Lord, receive now our prayer in this hour; sanctify our life according to Thy commandments: hallow our souls, cleanse our bodies, rectify our thoughts, purify our minds, and deliver us from every kind of suffering and sickness: guard us by Thy holy angels: that by their intercession and instruction we may attain the unity of faith, and the incomprehensible glory of Thy wisdom; for Thou art blessed for ever and ever. Amen.

O Lord, have mercy. [Three times.]

Glory to Thee, O God, and to Thy Christ, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Most glorious Cherubim, and most renowned Seraphim, we magnify thy unflappable words of God's glory, O Theotokos, that gave birth thereto, being in very truth thy great honor.

By the prayers of our holy Fathers, Jesus Christ, O Soul, have mercy on us, Amen.

And let us pray this great prayer of basil:

O Master, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, long-suffering toward our offenses, and even until this present hour bring us, hanging upon the life-giving cross, to the robber, the wretched brigand, whom Thou didst make worthy of entering into paradise, and by death didst destroy death itself, cleansing us, sinners and unworthy servants. For we have sinned and transgressed the law, and are not worthy to behold Thy glory or gaze upon the heavenly heights: for we left the way of Thy righteousness and walked in the desires of our hearts. But we beseech Thee, O Thou boundless in mercy, have pity on us, Lord, according to the abundance of Thy mercy, and save us and grant us forgiveness through Thine holy Name, for even our days have vanished into vanity, and Thou hast changed and delivered us from the hands of our adversaries, and left unto us our sins, and made our fleshly understanding dead. That we may put off the old man with its deeds and be clothed in the new: and by Thee shall we live in Thy right hand, O Giver of good pleasure, and following Thy commandment, attain to eternal rest, where is the abode of all who rejoice; for Thou art indeed the true joy and gladness of them that love Thee, our God. And unto Thee do we send forth glory, with Thine unbeginning Father and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

We begin the evening prayer.
