I confess to Thee, O Lord my God and Creator, in the Holy Trinity, glorified and worshipped, Father, and Spirit, and Power, all my sins which I have committed in all days of my life, and at every hour, and in this present time, and in past days and nights: by deeds, words, thoughts, meditations, drunkenness, secret doings, festive speech, sighs, laziness, slander, oppression, negligence, self-love, many-sidedness, theft, untruthfulness, foul gain, hypocrisy, envy, anger, memory of evil, hatred, wickedness, and all my senses: by sight, hearing, taste, smell, and other sins, both spiritual and bodily, with which I have provoked Thy God's wrath, and wronged my neighbor. For these things, sorrowing for myself, I confess to Thee, O my God, and have the will to be reconciled: truly, O Lord my King, help me, beseeching Thee in tears of humility: and may Thy mercy forgive all these, as Thou hast cried out before Thee, being good and lover of mankind.

Mercy of the holy and venerable Ioann Damascus,

who pointed to thy wound, saith:

"Let not thine heart be hardened,
for suddenly compunction cometh."

For always sudden is the visitation of God's mercy,
and delusion leadeth into spiritual deception.

Stranger thou art in this world,
a foreigner and a pilgrim;
thy dwelling place is heaven,
wherefore let thy heart be humble.

Creatures are they that deceive thee,
for deceit is their nature.
Therefore, O Soul, be not entangled with them,
but cleave to the Lord thy God.

For evermore doth His mercy exceed all things,
and His righteousness and glory are ineffable.

O Master, lover of mankind, wilt Thou indeed let this my tomb be for me; or yet enlighten still my soul by Thy light today? Lo, before me is a tomb, lo, death stands facing me. In Thy judgment I fear, and endless torments; but not cease do I create: ever in Thee, O Lord of my soul, do I grieve, and curse Thy might, and all the powers, and the angel who keepeth me.

For verily, O Lord, I know wherefore, for that I am unworthy of Thine love, yet worthy of every judgment and torment. But Thou, whether wilt or no, save me. For if Thou hast saved the righteous man, nothing greater; and if Thou hast forgiven the pure one, nothing marvellous: for they are worthy to receive Thy mercy. But upon my sinfulness marvel Thou: that this Thine love may not overcome my weakness, more hidden than Thy unspeakable goodness and mercy: and as Thou wilt, order all things for me.

Thus desiring to lie upon the bed of repose,
they sang this troparion, tone 3:

Enlighten my eyes, O Lord Jesus Christ: that I may not fall into death, nor when the enemy saith: I have stiffened him against me.

Glory to Thee, and to Thy Mother, and to the Holy Spirit.

Helper of my soul, be God, for I walk in the nets of many: deliver me from them, and save me closer, for a lover of mankind.

And now and for ever. Amen.

O most Glorious Theotokos, and of the holy company of angels, unceasingly we hymn with heart and tongue, beseeching Thee, this our confession, for truly Thou didst give birth to God Incarnate, and ceaselessly praying for our souls.

Also, cleanse thy own with the sign of the Cross from head to feet, and from all lands, saying:

Mercy in the precious and holy Kiss:
