God created heaven and earth, all living creatures and man, in six days, and on the seventh he rested from His works and sanctified this day so that man would dedicate it to serving God, to deeds of love and mercy.
God created man from the earth and gave him a “living soul,” that is, an immortal soul, distinguished him from other living creatures by reason and good will, so that man would know his Creator, love Him and fulfill His holy will.
