Believing, therefore I cried: I have indeed been humbled. I said in my affliction: All man is deceit. What shall I render to the Lord for all? For I will render it; I have taken the chalice of consecration and called upon the Lord: I will render my prayers to the Lord before all men. The reading before the Lord of the venerable ones. O Lord, I am thy servant, I am thy servant, and son of thy handmaid: Thou hast torn asunder my bonds. Accept therefore my sacrifice of praise, and call upon the Lord in me: I will render my prayers to the Lord before all men, in the courts of thy house, among thy priests, by thy side, O Priest.

Glory to Thee, and to Thy Father, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Glory to Thee, Alleluia, glory to Thee, glory to Thee, O Lord. [Three times.] And bowings three.

Thy lawlessness, O Lord, do Thou despise; from two births I am become pure, and let my heart be cleansed, a temple Thou dost build with Thine own precious body and blood: beneath Thy face, O Lord, pour out upon me Thy mercies, numberless and uncountable.

Glory to Thee, and to Thy Son, and to Thy Holy Spirit.

Partaking of thy holy mysteries as one unworthy; For if I dare to approach thee with worthy ones, I am reproached, because there is no evening, and the judgment and condemnation go forth from me exceedingly sinful soul. Purify the stain of my soul, and save me, for thou art a lover of mankind.

And now and for ever. Amen.

Many multitudes of my manifold sins, O Theotokos, have exceeded me; I have fled to Thee, beseeching Thy salvation: visit my feeble soul in its weakness, and pray to Thy Son and our God to grant me remission, since I have endured much, alone blessed.

When the glorious Apostles were enlightened on the eve of the Lord's Supper, then Judas, being overcome by covetousness and unwell through greed, was darkened in heart; and as an unjust judge he delivered up the just Judge.

O Ruler of all,
in pity for such,
thou didst not desert the hungry souls,
Teacher so daring:
unto whom all the blessed say:
Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

Yirmós: Ye people, take up the song of the Lord, which divided the sea and taught the peoples, that He might lead them out of Egyptian bondage, that they might glorify Him.

Refrain: O Soul/Spirit, cleanse my heart within me, and renew a right spirit in my womb.

Let the bread of life, ever-living, be my body, O holy Lord, and Thy precious blood, and healing from manifold diseases.

Response: Not forsake me from thy face, O Lord, and let not thy

Pripev: Preshta bce, spsini nas.

Earth blessed, blessed by God's holy word, class profaned not by unregenerate and saving world, vouchsafe to me this day to be saved.

Yirmos: On the stones of faith I have been made firm, and Thou hast enlarged my lips against my enemies. For my spirit rejoiceth, when I say: There is none like unto God our King, nor any who is purer than He, O Lord.

Let Thy holy tears fall upon my sinful heart, cleansing it: that I may be cleansed with a good conscience, coming in faith and fear of the Master, unto partaking of thy divine gifts.

Refrain: Do not cast me off from Thy face, and let Thy mercy depart not from me.

In the confession of my sinfulness, O Lover of mankind, let me be found more sinful than Thy holy and precious Body, and let there be a general repentance, and in life eternal, let estrangement from passions and sorrows be cast away.

Prěstáva Bože, spásí nas.

The table of life-giving bread is laid out, above the measure of earthly things for those who have come forth, and a new life of the world-giving doth give to me now, and I, unworthy, dare to partake with fear, and to live.

Yirmos: Thou hast come from above, not by a messenger, nor an angel, but Thyself hast been incarnate and hast suffered all the infirmities of man. Therefore dost Thou call upon Thee: Glory to Thy power, O Lord.

Wishing to see us by His Incarnation, God became man, being crucified for our instruction, for the sins of men: therefore I beseech Thee, and my soul cleanse my transgressions.

Response: Not forsake me, O Lord, from thy face, and let not thy圣灵, Thy holy face, depart from me.

Heal my soul, O Lord, according to thy name, and all my flesh: that I may be worthy to partake of the mysteries of thy divine Supper, O Preserver.

Pripev: Preshta bce, spasi nas.

Have mercy on me, O Lady from the depths of Thy glory, and keep me unspotted among Thy servants and undefiled,
that I may receive the pure wheat, being justified.

Yirmos: Light Giver and Creator of ages, in the light of thy commandments guide us: for verily we know not but one God.

As thou hast foretold, O Lord, that evil would come to Thy servant and abide within me, even as Thou didst promise: verily, this is the body of Thine, and I drink Thy blood.

Response: Not forsake me, O Lord, from thy face, and let not thy

Word of God and of the Spirit, O my soul, may thy body be darkened in enlightenment, and the cleansing of my defiled spirit by thy blood.

Pripev: Preshta bce, spas' nas'.

Blessed be Thee, O Mother of God, most holy and joyful feast, by Thy prayers make me the chosen vessel, that I may partake thereof.

O Soul and heart, and spirit of mine, and body, be thou strengthened, and let thee be worthy to approach the Unsearchable Mysteries with Master.

Let me be removed from passions, and may I have the manifestation of Thy mercy; and may my life be strengthened through partaking of the holy mysteries of Thine.

Bread of the Lord, take not in disdain, Thee, Thy body, and this Thy blood, precious, poured out by Thine own Master, partaking of the fearful mysteries: that I may not be judged, but may be given life eternal and immortal.

Irmos: Into the furnace of fiery trial with the young Hebrew who descended therein, and wherein the flame was laid upon the rosin of God, let us sing the works of Thy power, O Lord, and exalt them for all ages.

Heavenly and dreadful and holy are thy mysteries, O Lord, now manifest, and thy divine and secret vigils to partake of the common lot, Thou hast made me worthy, O Saviour.

Blestarest Thee, our Good Mother, to Whom we flee with fear, calling upon Thee: In me abide, save me, and as I cried out to Thee, so now in Thee: for I dare to rely on Thy mercy, through Thy Body and Blood.

Quaking I receive the fire, that I may not be consumed as wax and as grass. Lo, the fearfulness of the mystery! Lo, the good-worship of Thee, O Mother of God! As the body and blood are eagerly partaken, and made immortal.

Soul and body may be made clean, enlightened, saved, becoming a house to Thee through partaking of the holy mysteries, abiding in Thee and dwelling within Thee with Thy Father and Thy Holy Spirit, O Bountiful One.

Refrain: Receive in me the joy of thy salvation, and by thee establish me a house of my Lady.

As fire is to me, O my Body, and light the body of Thine, and precious blood shed for me: falling upon sinful matter, consuming passions with thorns, and enlightening all of me, I shall bow down before Thy Divine Majesty.

It is meet and right, truly, to bless Thee, O Theotokos, ever-virgin, and to acknowledge Thee as the Mother of God, our Lord. More honorable than the cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the seraphim, without corruption Thou gavest birth to God the Word, the immortal Spirit. Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos, for thou art holy, and blessed is Thy womb that bore the Saviour of our souls.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors: and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

O Lord, have mercy on us, for in thee we have trusted: let not thy wrath light upon us, nor consider our sins as a remembrance; but look upon us now with favor and deliver us from our enemies: thou art our God, and we are thy people, all our works are thy handiwork, and by thee we call upon thee.

And now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Mercy be unto thee, O Theotokos: trusting in thee, let us not perish, but be delivered by thee from misfortunes: for thou art the salvation of the race of Christians.

Master, O Lord Jesus Christ, our Life and Source of immortality, Helper of all visible and invisible creatures, co-eternal with the Father, present in His uncreated Power, yet without beginning, for many days having come into this corruptible flesh, being crucified, buried, and rising again for us sinners and lawless ones, by Thy precious Blood renewing our nature corrupted by sin: Thou, O Immortal King, receive my sinful confession, incline Thine ear to me, and hear my words: I have sinned, O Lord, having sinned against Thee and before Thee, and am not worthy to behold the height of Thy glory. I have provoked Thy goodness by transgressing Thy commandments and disobeying Thy wills. But Thou, O merciful, long-suffering, and full of compassion, didst not deliver me over to destruction with my unrighteousness, but hast waited for my repentance. For Thou spakest, O Lover of mankind: As I desired that the death of the sinner should not be, but that he might turn and live. For Thou wouldest not destroy Thy creature made by Thine own hand, nor didst Thou will the destruction of human dignity, but hast willed all to be saved, in faith and truth. Therefore, though I am unworthy of earth and heaven, having sinned against Thee with my whole life, enslaved by pleasure, defiling Thy image: yet as created and made by Thee, I do not despair of my salvation, relying on Thy boundless mercy. Receive me, O Lover of mankind, as a harlot, as a robber, as a tax-gatherer, and as a sinner, bearing my heavy burden of sins, the sin of this world, and healing the weakness of human nature, striving and bearing burdens, calling and comforting, not coming to call the righteous but sinners for repentance: cleanse me from all uncleanness of body and spirit, and teach me to fulfill Thy commandments in Thy passion: that with pure conscience I may receive a part of Thy Body and Blood, being united with Thy Body and Blood, and have Thee living and abiding in me, with Thy Father and Spirit as my home. Thou, O Lord Jesus Christ, be mine, and let not my soul and body partake of the precious and life-giving mysteries unworthily: but grant that even until the end of my life I may receive a part of Thy Body, in common fellowship, in guidance to eternal life, and in the blessed light on Thy fearful judgment: for with all those whom Thou hast prepared loving Thee, O Lord, be I found among the uncorrupted, praised by Thee into ages. Amen.

O Lord my God, I know that I am not worthy and insufficient to enter into the sanctuary of my soul today, for it is wholly empty and desolate; there is no place in me worthy enough for Thee to bow Thy head: but as Thou didst humble Thyself from on high for our sakes, so also now humiliate Thyself with my humility. And as Thou wast received into the manger and heard the voiceless beasts: thus receive also into the voiceless beasts of my soul, and into this defiled body.

And as Thou wast not worthy to enter in and spend the evening with the sinners in Simon the leper's house: so also didst Thou will to enter into the house of my humble soul, which is leprous and sinful. And as Thou didst not anoint a like sinner and sinful woman who came and touched Thee: thus Thou hast forgiven me and my sins, coming and touching Thee.

And as Thou didst not suffer the foul and impure to heal Thee: so also I suffer the foul and impure from within me, and the abominable and impure in my heart. But may I be a coal of Thy furnace for the purification, illumination, health, and comfort of my humble soul and body, in the alleviation of many of my sins, in the observance of all devilish deeds, in the quenching and prohibition of my own sinful and deceitful habits, in the mortification of passions, in the supply of Thy commandments, and in the appropriation of Thy grace and Thy kingdom. For Thou dost not despise the coming to Thee of Thy people, but daringly rely on Thine ineffable goodness: and may I not be far removed from Thy communion, being a thoughtless wolf swallowed up by sin.

Therefore I pray Thee: as One alone holy, sanctify my soul and body, heart and bowels, and all of me; root in me the fear of Thee in my hands and feet, and let Thine purification remain unshaken within me. Be Thou my helper and intercessor, feeding me with life today, worthy to stand before Thee with Thy saints: through Thy prayers and those of Thy undefiled servants and mighty powers, and all Thy saints, from the ages be blessed unto Thee. Amen.

O One Immortal and Unchanging Lord, for Thy ineffable mercy toward man, Thou didst receive into Thyself our entire mixture from the blood of the Incarnate and Double-natured, more than natural, Theotokos, by Thy divine-human presence and by the will of the Father, present in her, preserving her as a whole, full of grace, peace, and strength. Through Thy reception of the life-giving and saving sufferings, Thou hast crucified, O Christ, stars, sword, death, my soul’s mortal sufferings of the body. By Thy burial, O Lord, the captive kingdom was buried, burying my sinful thoughts and counsels of deceit, and the deceitful spirits. By Thy three-day and life-giving resurrection, Thou raisedst up fallen Adam, raising me also, who had fallen through sin, presenting to me an image of repentance. By Thy glorious ascension, Thou didst sanctify the reception, and by Thy divine right hand’s dignity, Thou hast granted me to partake of Thy holy mysteries with a pure heart. By the coming of the Comforter, O Lord, Thou didst make vessels of honor, showing me Thy coming. May I again be judged in all the world by Thy righteousness, O Lord, and meet Thee on the clouds, Judge and Creator of my soul, with all Thy holy ones: that I may now and ever praise Thee with Thy unending Father and the Holy Place, O Life-giving Temple, now and forever. Amen.

O Master, Jesus Christ, our only Power, dost Thou permit sin to abide in man: forasmuch as Thou art good and lover of mankind, despise Thou my every sin both known and unknown: and vouchsafe me to partake unworthily of Thy divine, glorious, precious, life-giving Mysteries: not by burden, nor by suffering, nor by the addition of sins, but by cleansing, and consecration, and anointing, for the receiving of the hope of life and kingdom: in the wall and help, and in the repulse of adversaries, in the extirpation of many of my transgressions. For Thou art God, full of mercy and lover of mankind: to Thee we send glory, with Thy Father and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

We know, O Lord, because unworthy we partake of Thy precious Body and Thy precious Blood; and I am guilty, and condemn myself, drinking not considering Thy Body and Blood of the Christ and mine: but daring on Thy liberality, I come to Thee, saying: Give my flesh, and drink my blood, which is in me, and I am in it. Have mercy on me, O Lord, and do not reveal me as a sinner; but work with me according to Thy will: and may I be made holy, cleansed, enlightened, preserved, saved, both in soul and body: in the anguish of all my thoughts, and of evil deeds, and of devilish works, in my heart's actions: with boldness and love, wherefore to Thee, for correction of life and establishment, for return of virtues and perfection: for fulfillment of Thy commandments, in common prayer, in guidance of life eternal, in the light blessedly pleasing on Thy fearful judgment: not into judgment or condemnation.

O Lord, cleanse me from evil thoughts, from the filthiness of a wicked heart, from an unclean tongue, and from the impurity of my soul. Receive my prayer, Theotokos, and do not despise my words, neither my forms, nor my ignorance. Give me boldness to speak as Thou wilt, Theotokos. Teach me also what is fitting for me to do and say. I have sinned more than a harlot; yet Thou hast led me into the place where Thou art anointed with ointment, O Mother of God, Master and Theotokos. As He did not disdain to come from Thy heart when Thou camest to buy myrrh, so also now receive my nose, and hold it, and kiss it, and anoint it with tears, as with a precious ointment. Wipe away my tears with them, cleanse me by them: "Leave off my transgressions," and grant me repentance. Bear witness to the multitude of my sins, bear witness to the fetters of my soul; but also bear witness to my faith, and to my will, and to my sighs. Do not hide from Thee, O My God, Creator, Saviour, a single tear drop or part thereof. Thou seest my humility, Thou seest my labor, and all my sins I have left behind me, O All-holy One: that with a pure heart, with a contrite mind, and a broken spirit, I may receive the unblemished and holy mysteries, by which one is quickened and saved. For truly Thou hast said, Master: "Every member of My flesh and blood, in this body of mine, abides; in it also am I." Verily, verily, Thy Word is life and God My Life, joy and peace to Me. Therefore for Thee I have come, as Thou didst see with tears, and a contrite heart, that Thou mightest receive my supplication from my transgressions, and partake of Thy unspotted and pure mysteries without condemnation. That Thou mayest abide, as Thou hast said, Triune in three Persons: that no one else but Thee, O Giver of Life, Breath, Joy, Peace to Me, may find me, seduced by the deceitful and crafty, led astray by Thy Word-bearers. Therefore I now come to Thee with a contrite heart, knowing as another, not to offend Thee, nor to sin in any day, for I have sinned. But we know also that neither the greatness of transgressions nor the multitude of sins surpasseth Thy great patience and boundless love: but by Thy warm compassion Thou dost cleanse, enlighten, and create partakers of Thy mysteries without envy; and Thou speakest with them many times as with Thy true friends. This boldness worketh in me, this putteth me to shame, Theotokos. And through Thy rich blessings, rejoicing together, trembling, partaking of the fire, like green grass, and a strange wonder, being watered not by fire, as if a cup of ancient wine were burning. Now with thankful heart, with a grateful soul, with my prayers, with my body and soul, I prostrate myself before Thee, glorifying Thee, O My God, now and forever.

Lord, strengthen me, support me, forgive my transgressions, if I have sinned, whether by word, deed, thought, willfully or unwillingly, knowingly or unknowingly, all of them thou forgive, for thou art good and lover of mankind: and with thy prayers prevail upon thy holy servants and mighty powers, and all the holy from ages past, uncondemned in thy good pleasure to receive me worthy and precious, and clean my corrupt soul and body, and cleanse the evil thoughts of mine. For thine is the kingdom, and power, and glory, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Not well pleased am I, O Lord, to enter under the roof of my soul: but since thou wouldest, as a lover of man, abide in me, daringly I approach: Thou hast commanded that the doors be cast down which thou alone didst create, and entered with thy lovingkindness: entering, thou didst enlighten my darkened thought. I believe this thou hast done: for neither by a harlot weeping didst thou drive away, nor by a penitent woman didst thou reject those who had fallen, nor by a robber didst thou cast out the Theotokos' house, nor by persecutors didst thou leave behind them who were fleeing; but coming forth from their repentance to thee, all in thy face have been set right, one alone blessed always, now and for ever. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, my God, strengthen me, preserve me, cleanse me and forgive me my sins, whether they be of willful disobedience, or of involuntary weakness, or of unworthiness as Thy servant, for all my transgressions, both from my youth even unto this day and hour, in thought and in unthought, in word and deed, in intention and imagination, and in all my feelings. And by thy seedless prayers born of thee, O most pure Mother of God, with thy holy and blameless hopes and intercessions, make me worthy to partake of the seedless, immortal, life-giving, fearful mysteries, for the remission of sins and for eternal life: in the true fulfillment, enlightenment, strength, healing, health of soul and body, and in the consumption and complete destruction of my evil thoughts, intentions, and night dreams, those dark and deceitful spirits: for Thou art the King, power, glory, honor, worship, with Thy holy and reverent service now and forever and into the ages of ages. Amen.

Before the doors of thy temple, O Lord, I stand, and do not depart from evil thoughts: but thou, O God, didst save the penitent publican, and had mercy on the Canaanite woman, and didst cast down the doors to the robber, casting me also into the bosom of thy merciful love, and receiving me as one who cometh in and toucheth thee, even as a sinner, and one that bleedeth: I kiss thy holy feet, and receive from them a sweet healing. And I hold fast thy precious nostrils, and obtain release from my sins. For thou art blessed for ever and ever. Amen.

I believe, Lord, and confess, for Thou art truly the Son of God, living and coming into the world sinners to save me, the first among many. And I also believe that this is Thy most precious body, and this is Thy own pure blood. I pray Thee therefore: forgive me, and blot out my transgressions, voluntary and involuntary, both by word, both by deed, both by knowledge and by ignorance, and grant me to partake unworthily of Thy most holy mysteries, in remission of sins, and into eternal life. Amen.

Come then and partake, they said within themselves the following metaphrastic stichos:

I approach the divine communion with all my heart.

Sodětelju, da ne ŭpališi mę prívobčen'iem':

For we are indeed unworthy to enter.

NB: ".sg." is omitted as it is implied in the Russian rendering, and the English construction handles this naturally.

But cleanse me from all wickedness.

Everest are Thy mysteries of today, O God, for the sake of the Thee-partaker I receive You: not because my enemy will know them, nor will I give to the beguiler, but to the rebel and confessing I say: remember me where in Your Kingdom.

For fire is a thing unworthy of the fallen.

The Holy Spirit praiseth Thee, O Thou Who feedest with strange food.

O Soul/Spirit, the Lord hath sweetened me with love of Thee, and changed me with Thy divine affection: but I have fallen into the fire of spiritual sin, and Thou hast given me to partake of Thy enjoyment, that I may glorify Thee more highly, appearing nigh unto Thy presence.

In the light of thy holy light, as in one unworthy; yet daring to come within the throne, where my vestment defiles me, for it is not nuptial, and bound and cast out by the angels: cleanse thou, O Lord, the foulness of my soul, and save me, for lover of man.

O Master Lover of mankind, God Jesus Christ, do not judge me into the assembly today for that wherein I am unworthy to be: but in compunction and confession of my soul and body, and in the putting on of the future life and glory. To Me, however, whatsoever is added by Thee, O Good One, let it be for hope of salvation.
