Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness; according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
O troparion, tone 3:
Grant, O Lord, to Thy servant the gift of compunction,
That I may not suddenly fall into sin.
For Thou art a stranger and a foreigner in this world,
And I am but a spectacle and a creature.
Delusion has deceived me, and deceit has misled me;
But grant that I may be mindful of my transgressions
And turn to Thee with contrite heart.
Grant, O Lord, to Thy servant the gift of compunction,
That I may not suddenly fall into sin.
For Thou art a stranger and a foreigner in this world,
And I am but a spectacle and a creature.
Delusion has deceived me, and deceit has misled me;
But grant that I may be mindful of my transgressions
And turn to Thee with contrite heart.
O Good Shepherd, Thou Who hast laid Thy precious Soul for us, O most holy, reveal to me the hidden things, mingled with me by Thee, alone near and dear. Have mercy on me, who am wandering in confusion of mind, and deliver me from the wolf, the lamb of God, and forgive me.
Long sleep has darkened my soul through spiritual deceit: but grant me morning of repentance, enlightening my thoughts, O Holy Spirit, enlightenment of my soul, and save me.
By sin's foul mist and the sweetness of earthly life our souls are entangled; passions arise in them, and compunction does not come to mind. But hearken, save, and make me humble, that I may have a mind of compunction before Thee: O Spirit, Thou Who savest my soul, having mercy on the penitent and the unworthy.
As one who falls among robbers, so also did I fall into many sins, and my soul is thus afflicted. To whom shall I flee for refuge? Only to Thee, O Physician of souls! Pour out upon me, O God, Thy great mercy.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As a prodigal son, I have come back with more generosity: receive me, O Father, having returned as one of thy hired servants, and forgive me.
Now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen. Save us from those who hold us in sin: for sometimes even faithful ones do not have recourse to Thee, and are born of Thee alone. O Lord, forgive. [Amen.] And with bowing down and prayer:
Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner, and forgive me for my wanderings, for Thou hast set Thy holy stead fast.
Mercy of the holy basil of great stature:
Again I have been taken captive by weeping and by deceitful custom, working in sin. Again I am the prince of darkness and the father of passionate delights; thou hast made me a prisoner, and as with a slave, according to thy will and desire, thou dost compel me to work against my will. And what do I do, O my Lord and Saviour, and my helper for those who call upon thee? Yet I fear and tremble lest, like always, I confess again, and fall short of the promises made to me, and sin at every hour: and not giving thee, O my God, my prayer as a due offering, thy long-suffering riseth up against me in anger. And who can endure thine wrath, O Lord? For thou knowest the multitude of thy mercies, and the abundance of thy loving-kindness; again I turn to thy prayer, crying out to thee: "For all that I have sinned, forgive." Have mercy on me, fallen one, give me a hand of help in the depths of sweet delights. Do not abandon, O my creation, lest I be consumed by my own sins and my own wickedness; but by thy customary mercies and goodness, compel me to escape from uncleanness and evil thoughts that defile always my heart that weeps. For indeed, O Lord, as thou hast seen, there is no place of purity in it, but all manner of filthiness, and the whole body covered with sores. Thou, O Lover of mankind, physician of soul and body, source of tears, cleanse thy tears flowing upon me sweetly: pour out on me thy loving-kindness, give me healing and cleansing, heal my brokenness, and do not turn away thy face from me, lest I be consumed by the fire of wrath; but as thou hast said, true God, as joy cometh to those who confess one sinner, so also upon me, a sinner, thou didst work it, and with thy good womb thou didst not shut up my confession in prayer, but didst answer and didst purify them before thee: for the weakness of nature is to the Creator, and the desires of youth, and the heaviness of body, and thou despisest sin, and receivest repentance from those who call upon thee with truth. Again blessed art thou, O Lord, and glorious in thy name, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
