Since the days of Great Lent are predominantly days of repentance, the entire Lenten service is arranged so that it arouses contrition and repentance for sins. All solemnity has been removed from it: the royal doors are rarely opened; only a few lamps are lit; the clergy put on mourning vestments (dark); There are few chants, but more reading is heard; many prayers are accompanied by prostrations.
The evening service in Lent consists of Great Compline; morning - from Matins and the first hour; midday - from the hours: 3rd, 6th, 9th and Vespers; on Wednesdays and Fridays - this is also supplemented by the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts.
On Saturdays, Sundays and Maundy Thursday the full liturgy is celebrated: on Saturdays the Liturgy of Chrysostom, and on Sundays, Maundy Thursday and Maundy Saturday - the Liturgy of Basil the Great.
