What do we ask in the words of the prayer: deliver us from evil?
We ask for deliverance from all evil that can befall us in the world, which, since the time of the first sin, has been entirely in evil (1 John 5:19); especially from the evil of sin and from the crafty suggestions and slander of the spirit of malice, the devil.
