Currently, three services are performed daily in the Orthodox Church: in the evening - Vespers, in the morning - Matins and in the afternoon - Mass, or Liturgy.

Before great holidays and before Sundays, Vespers and Matins are combined into one Divine service, called from ancient times the all-night vigil, or in short, the all-night vigil, since ancient Christians before the great holidays actually spent their nights in vigil, that is, in wakefulness, without sleep, in prayer and chants. In some of our monasteries, the pious custom of holding an all-night vigil from evening until dawn has been preserved to this day.
