Glory to Thee, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, for Thou hast again vouchsafed to me, unworthy as I am, after the holy fast, to prostrate myself before Thy Divine Passion and behold the most joyful day of the glorious Resurrection from the grave. In it Thou didst free those souls in Hades who had been bound by sin for ages. O God, lover of my soul, I desire that Thou wouldst release me, being bound by many sins, and cause me to arise to the living light of Thy Resurrection in the darkness of my soul. For I see countless mercies and ineffable human love from Thee, not only leading me from non-existence into existence, but also adorning me with the image of Thy likeness, setting me as a ruler over all creation. Yet, having fallen from heights and being enslaved by the enemy, Thou didst not abandon me; but, redeeming me through Thy precious Blood, Thou hast supplied me with the grace of baptism, that I might rise to my first estate. But I, wretched one, having turned back with a carnal mind, have again become a servant of sin and passion. Therefore, now what I shall do, I know not; but recalling the words of Thine pure lips, Thou didst not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. And as one of them, coming in faith and humility to Thy living tomb, I bring no fragrant spices or stench of death (for I am naked and void of good works), but rather hope to find therein forgiveness of my sins and renewal of my unclean life. Look now upon me, a penitent and desiring to serve Thee, and do not reject me from the grace of Thy Resurrection! By Thy life-giving death and burial, slay my fierce passions; that as dead and buried, I may live in this present world. By Thy glorious rising, raise up my soul, slain by sin, and renew my conscience, which is more necessary than anything else in this world. By Thine exaltation, sever me from vain and soul-destroying earthly blessings, and make me a higher wisdom, that I may not live for myself or please myself, but serve Thee, Lord and God of mine, working and serving as Thou hast vouchsafed to prostrate myself before Thy Resurrection on earth. Thus shall I be worthy to see Thee, my beloved Redeemer, in heaven, for the joy of Thy crucified and glorified word, crowned with honor and glory among the archangels and angels, and standing at Thy right hand, with all those whom Thou hast redeemed, my brethren, for evermore praising Thee: Alleluia! Amen. [Akhaphist to the Resurrection of Christ, composed by Baron Nolde.]
