Glory to Thee, O Lord Jesus Christ, my God, for Thou hast again vouchsafed to me, unworthy as I am, after the holy fast, to prostrate myself before Thy Divine Passion and behold the most joyous day of the glorious Resurrection from the grave. In it Thou didst free those souls bound in hell for ages, O God. Most loving Saviour, I pray Thee, release me who am bound by many sins, that Thou mayest cause to arise within my darkened soul the life-giving light of Thy Resurrection. For I see countless mercies and ineffable human love from Thee, not only didst Thou bring me from non-existence into existence, but also adorned me with the likeness of Thy image, and set me as a ruler over all creation. Yet, having fallen from heights and being enslaved by the enemy, Thou didst not abandon me; but, redeeming me through Thine invaluable Blood, Thou hast supplied me with the grace of baptism, that I might rise to my first estate. But I, guilty one, having turned back with a carnal mind, have again become a servant of sin and passion, thus destroying all the gifts of Thy grace. Now, O Lord, what shall I do? Remembering the words of Thine pure lips, Thou didst not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance; as one of them, with faith and humility, I approach Thy life-giving grave, not bearing fragrant spices or the stench of death (for I am naked and devoid of good works), but rather hope that in it I may find forgiveness for my sins and renewal of my unclean life. Look upon me, O Thou who art being repented of and desiring to serve Thee, and do not reject me from the grace of Thy Resurrection! By Thy death and burial, slay my bitter passions; so as though dead and buried, I may live in this present world. By Thy glorious rising, raise up my soul, slain by sins, and renew my conscience, which is more necessary than anything else in this world. By Thine exaltation, detach me from vain and soul-destroying earthly blessings, and make me a higher wisdom, that I may not live for myself or please myself, but serve Thee, O Lord and God of mine, working and serving as Thou hast appointed to prostrate myself before Thy Resurrection on earth. Thus having been appointed, I shall be worthy to see Thee, my most loving Redeemer, in heaven, for the joy of receiving death by Thy crucified word and glory; and standing at Thy right hand with the archangels and angels, together with all my brothers redeemed by Thee, through the ages I will sing to Thee: Alleluia! Amen. [Akathist to the Resurrection of Christ composed by Baron Nolden.]
