Glory to Thee, O Lord Jesus Christ, my God, for Thou hast again vouchsafed to me, unworthy as I am, after the holy fast, to prostrate myself before Thy Divine Passion and behold the most joyous day of the glorious Resurrection from the grave. In it Thou didst free those souls in Hades who were bound by eternal chains, O God. Most loving Saviour, I pray Thee, release me, being bound by many sins, and grant that I may arise to the living light of Thy Resurrection in my darkened soul. For I see countless mercies and ineffable human love from Thee, not only leading me from non-existence into existence, but also setting me as a ruler over all creation, even though I fell from heights and was enslaved by the enemy. Yet Thou didst not abandon me, but having redeemed me with Thy precious Blood, Thou hast supplied me with the grace of baptism, that I might rise to my first estate. But I, being accursed, having turned back with a fleshly mind, have again become a servant of sin and passion; for by one fall I destroyed all the gifts of Thy grace. Now, O what shall I do? But recalling the holy words from Thy pure lips: "For I came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance," and as one of them, coming with faith and humility to Thy living tomb, I bring no fragrant spices or stench of death (for I am naked and empty of good works), but rather hope to find in it forgiveness of my sins and renewal of my unclean life. Look now upon me, O Thou who dost forgive and serve Thee, and do not reject me from the grace of Thy Resurrection! By Thy life-giving death and burial, slay my fierce passions; that as one dead and buried, I may live in this present world. By Thy glorious rising, raise up my soul, slain by sins, and renew my conscience, which is more necessary than anything else in this world. By Thy exaltation, sever me from vain and soul-destroying earthly blessings, and make me wise for the higher things, that I may not live for myself or please myself, but serve Thee, O Lord and God of mine, serving and working as Thou hast vouchsafed to prostrate myself before Thy Resurrection on earth. Thus shall I be worthy to see Thee, my most loving Redeemer, in heaven, receiving the crown of gladness for the confession of Thy death by word and glory, standing at Thy right hand with the archangels and angels, and with all Thy redeemed brothers, for evermore praising Thee: Alleluia! Amen. [Akhaphist to the Resurrection of Christ, composed by Baron Noldde.]
