A layman, if he wants to live righteously, must constantly pray in his soul and, when sitting at work, say:
Lord, Lord, do not turn Your Face away from me and do not take Your Holy Spirit away from me!
Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner!
Most Holy Theotokos, save my weak soul!
Cross of Christ, save me by Your power!
All saints, intercede for me, a sinner!
With such prayers, it is appropriate for ascetics to do their handicraft, and not only for ascetics, but also for all Christian monks, so that, working with their hands, two things can be done - sensual * and mental, we say: bodily and mental handicraft in truth and chastity.
