Blessed Hesychius Khorivit, the Silent One, lived in the 6th century in one of the monasteries on Mount Athos and at first was not a very zealous monk. After a serious illness, Hesychius died, but, by the wondrous Providence of God, he returned to life an hour later. After this, the blessed one secluded himself in his cell and remained in complete solitude for 12 years. The brethren heard only the singing of psalms and repentant sobs coming from the gate. Before his death, blessed Hesychius said to the visiting monks: “Forgive me, brothers. He who has mortal memory will never sin.”

The name Hesychia is associated with the formation on Mount Athos of the monastery of the Silent Ones - hesychasts who acquired special experience in the mental Jesus prayer

5 Rev. Evdokim of Vatopedi (Athos) († XVII, commemorated October 5)
